Peedi Crack vs. Pharoahe Monch vs. Killer Mike: Who do we need an album from most?

My vote is Peedi. Seriously, every time I hear a verse from him, it's a minor revelation. His WhooKid mixtape is my favorite album of 2006. Killer Mike's Allegiance to the Grind is 2nd. Ok, Pharoahe's mix is 4th, while Lil' Wayne's Dedication is no. 3.

Another related topic. These mixtapes, in my reckoning, made a joke of well-received label releases (Lupe Fiasco! Clipse! (and although I love him) Ghostface!): can anyone remember another recent year when the mixtape so thoroughly dominated label releases?

I have a Clinton Sparks mixtape with that Israeli hip-hop violinist woman. It's pretty good except for the Clinton Sparks parts.

I'm not totally seeing the logic of stating that we "need" official albums from people with good mixtapes out while also stating that most recent mixtapes are better than recent albums. The artists probably need to have their albums released more than the fans, really, at this point.

I gave that Killer Mike thing a chance but it annoyed the shit out of me. I don't remember him sounding that whiny on his first album, and he says "grind time rap gang" about once every ten seconds.

I just tried to cue it up on iTunes but just said fuck it and jammed "Poppin' Tags."

weak dude.
"Shoot Em Up" destroys anything else i heard this year as far as rappers destroying a track goes.

add "I'ma Shine," the flip of "One More Chance" w/ the beat switchup halfway through, "Paystyle"-posse cut, "HNIC," "You Don't Want This Life," I donno that record is incredible. Give it another chance.

I'd love a Pharoahe album.

Yeah, the new Mike album wasn't really all that, but "That's Life" is still incredible. The caveat being that I always hate double albums.

I'd love a Pharoahe album.

there's one coming - it was supposed to be out last year, but its been delayed... 'push' was an awesome single, and his track on dilla's 'the shining' was my favourite.

none of them. the new monch album is really shitty. killer mikes mix tape was great, and grind time gang are excellent, but i cant see him making a great album (although monster was half great). peedi, id love to hear an album from, but only if they let him be him and dont make him do a load of songs out of character. but hes great. one of the few new york guys to really still sound excited about doing this.
