None authorised, the only actual bio published was in 1996...and Scott was quoted as saying it was " a lot of Lies"
1996 A Deep Shade of Blue, Mike Watkinson and Pete Anderson, published by Virgin, out of print but can usually be found on Ebay, and on Amazon sellers second hand. Very readable book. Do try to get the second issue, it has more in it, as Scott's ex-wife Mette decided to answer back to some of the allegations made about her in the first one.
1997 Butterfly by Ben Cruikshank, published by Agenda Books, quite hard to find this one.
2000 Long About Now, by Ken Brooks mostly about his songs from the early days up to 2000, one of the most badly written books ever, doesn't seem to have had an editor. Also published by Agenda books, maybe the same author different names. I wouldn't bother to track this one down.
All American Boys The Walker Brothers Genesis by Steve McParland From Scott's early days all about the songs he wrote and produced for other people too, high school photos etc. Very technical in many ways too info on recording etc, and when he was involved with the Phil Spector studio Red Star. This one is well worth reading.
1998 Another Tear Falls by Jeremy Reed, not so much a bio, as ramblings, reflections and conjecture from this guy, who has also written a few other similar books about other people, the difference with those, was that he actually got to interview the people! Published by Creation books. Not a great book, but interesting on some ways. Still in print.
2006 Rhymes Of Goodbye, by Lewis Williams Plexus publishing, still in print. Again one about Scott's music, but well written and is very readable.
Promised for this April 2007 , as it was for last year but hasn't appeared. Published by Helter Skelter... The Walker Brothers by Anthony Reynolds, he has been writing it for the last 4 years that I know of, has interviewed many people, none of them called Walker LOL, John and Gary refused to contribute, I don't think he would even have asked Scott! Anthony is the singer of a band Called Jack and has an extensive blog site with info on the book and also some bits taken from it. Will read it of course but no new info likely to come from it.

this was on bbc4 last night, so you might be able to catch it again somewhere on the web.
loved the interviews with the string players/arrangers.
the internet isn't being very kind with this... who was the singer that he'd written a song for (for a compilation?) and what was the compilation? it was fairly recently, female singer, trained voice.

I think you mean Ute Lemper. He did two songs for her album 'Punishing Kiss' which is a great album, and she looks k-hot in leather on the cover fwiw.

thats it, thanks!
in the doc when she's listening back to one of the tracks with the interviewer theres a really great moment where she seems genuinely moved for the first time about something in the music.

The parts of this with Scott being interviewed or performing live were great. The parts where they make you look at a visualizer with "Anything Can Happen On Halloween"-levels of video effects were so, so bad, though.

Scott is so sad in this...I love sad Scott.

He kinda reminded me of Charles Schulz in looking back at all his work with this heartbreaking "I just tried to do the best I could" vibe.
just watched this a couple weeks ago -- i thought scott actually seemed a lot more happy go lucky than i imagined. relatively speaking to his records, i mean.
― tylerw, Tuesday, 21 September 2010 21:20 (fifteen years ago)
yeah, during the interview portions he comes off as this totally normal-seeming guy who seems pretty at peace with himself
i like how even during casual conversation the richness of his voice is evident
― dude (del), Tuesday, 21 September 2010 21:23 (fifteen years ago)
yeah his speaking voice is amazing. he should do books on tape.
― tylerw, Tuesday, 21 September 2010 21:26 (fifteen years ago)
OK well tbh I haven't seen this since May so now it's probably just half-imagination half-real like many memories.

no, i mean, he's definitely got an air of melancholy about him -- no doubt about that! but for a dude who music/image is based around this feeling of almost total existential despair, he seemed pretty well-adjusted in the interview segments of the film.

This is the first thing I watched on Netflix streming. It's quite good, always enjoy seeing Jarvis too.

always liked the subtle throwaway reference to 'the imbibing' although he never mentions what it *was* he was imbibing that caused him some trouble in the 70s. makes a change from the usual 'my drug/drink hell' sagas you usually get.

same director as the 'Rolling Stones in Exile' dvd-thing, fyi.
