Somehow missed this supposedly classic NZ band. Weird because in college I was way into Flying Nun. Guidance please?

Alls I know is from the album I have, which is called something like 3 Virgins, 3 Versions... Very hard to describe, though it's got the inspired/inept playing of early Royal Trux, little bits of The Fall....god, you can list influences but it's really its own thing. Probably not for your typical Flying Nun fan (Clean, Bats, Chills). I'd push it on fans of early Half Japanese and early Royal Trux, I guess.

They were stoned and goofy and badical. The Peter Wang Pud CD comp has stuff from all the records (there is a 4th live album as well.) they are Duane Doo-Rags fave band, maybe he will see this and come out of retirement

I love 3 Virgins, it's one of my favorite Flying Nun albums. If you love the Swell Maps who'll probably like the Axemen.

I actually can't find any of these albums! My usual spots - even eBay - turning up nothing! WTF?? This NEVER happens anymore!

They're *really* hard to find. I think there's a band site that has some CDs for mail order. Will check...

...who used to write for Popwatch and is something of an expert on the New Zealand scene. I kinda sorta know him from a past life...he's very nice, though I have no idea how helpful he'll be in tracking down Axemen albums.
