totally classic for those 1st 2 albums and partially classic again for Cosmic Thing. no-one actually likes any of the rest, do they?

saw them live only twice - first was just after Rock Lobster became a big hit and they were marvellous; 2nd was after CT and they looked dead tired but played pretty well.

Classic! At least for the first coupla records. I bought Wild Planet the other day and it's rather good indeed. Plus Chicks on Speed do ace covers of their songs. I used to have a massive crush on the brunette too (Kate Pearson?)

I'm living in my own private idaho

Their 91 concert was probably the last time I really boogied by little b ubble butt off. Me & Mum, festival hall, YOU"RE WHAT?

TIN ROOF - Rusted

Respect. Deadbeat club rocks as well...also in argentina they were huge, especially the album after cosmic thing.

Since no one else will, I'm giving Whammy! it's due props. And the Mesopotamia EP fer chrissakes! The title track on that one ranks among their best work.

Whammy is my favorite!! classic classic classic

Ron, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

first two albums classics, everything else - well - pale imitation of th efirst two really. "party mix" is a great little remix/ party album. probably the one thing of their's i play the most...

chris browning, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Gotta agree that Mesopotamia is their best. The harmonies win over the "woooo"s, which get annoying after awhile.

This thread has reminded me that I need the first two B-52s albums.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

As I remember this was done before and most of the Brits thought they were corny and goofy and most of the Yanks and Canucks had a soft spot for them. There was a similar reaction (in reverse) to Adam Ant.

They sort've lost the plot after the first two albums, but so what. For "Planet Claire," "52 Girls," "Dance this Mess Around," "Rock Lobster," "Private Idaho" and "Party Out of Bounds" (Fred Schneider's broken glass intro to that song never fails to reduce me to fits of laughter) they are CLASSIC!!!!

Cindy Wilson is one of my favorite singers, she and Kate had such perfect girl group voices. Plus Cindy was so hot back then, she looked like Penny from Lost in Space. And Kate was the sexy older women. So classic that I've all but forgotten how annoyed I was by Fred when I first heard them.

Arthur, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Classic, "Let's Rock" deserves to be the greatest sample in history but I cant think of anyone whose used it, as should be "get on your laser beam daddy and RIDE..." which might only be funny to people in an optics course at the time but oh well.

found this in the c/d file

three weeks pass...
Classic, had an argument with a guy while doing opium on the banks of the Mekong river (thailand) I was comparing them with Talking Heads, he finally agreed they were right up there.

Whammy's my sentimental favorite... mainly due to "Legal Tender" and "Song For A Future Generation". The first two are fine indeed. And I love the singles for Bouncing...

I'll even give props to "Roam" and "Channel Z"...otherwise, hmmmmmm...

Also worth mention is the Fred Schnieder and the Shake Society's "Monster"

Brian MacDonald, Monday, 6 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

classic up til David Byrne got his hands on them; intermittantly great ("Roam" especially) since then.

J Blount, Monday, 6 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Hi! I'm Cindy, I'm a Pisces, and I like Chihuahuas and Chinese noodles!"

Classic.

one month passes...
They're pretty powerful from time to time. I saw 'em twice in the year of the 1st album and they were great live. I'm afraid the shimmery keyboards and "perfect" production of later years dulled me on them somewhat, but like (someone up there) said, intermittently great!
