not sure if it's actually my favorite, but it was the first one i bought so i'm sentimentally attached. and it's great: we want the airwaves, kkk took my baby away, 7-11, she's a sensation, c'mon now, you didn't mean anything to me...it's at least their most underappreciated.

I was surprised by quite how much fun the last disc of the 'Weird Tales' box is, with all the daft covers. I'd stopped following the albums by then.

Brilliantly ambiguous! The funny cartoons bit does give it away though.

I rarely post about such things, but this one's worth noting: 50 years ago today.

A while back, when I was gathering various 1970s singles on to a homemade compilation, I threw this album on in the midst of it. Given how so many of the '70s cuts I had been gathering were mainstream top 40 hits, it really stood out how revolutionary and shocking the Ramones would've sounded if you put them on the radio for an unsuspecting listener.
Listening to the debut again yesterday, I busted out laughing at "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue." There's some ancient concert review somewhere (I think by Robert Palmer) where the critic was seeing them for the first time and couldn't figure out if this was meant to be a joke. I thought about that, how again an unsuspecting listener might go to a show in early 1976 and the think "what is this?" as they rip through one song after another, and then all of a sudden "Now I wanna sniff some glue! Now I wanna have something to do! All the kids wanna sniff some glue! All the kids want something to do!"
