I bought Play (2006) on the strength of a track I heard on the radio (drummer I thought was awesome and reminded me of Paul Motian turned out to actually be Paul Motian, of course). I'm pretty wowed by the whole album so far - maybe the most striking new jazz release I've heard in the last few years, although I'm not exactly keeping up with everything that comes out.
I like his subdued approach. His solos don't follow that predictable rising action-climax-denoument arc, but instead meditate self-assuredly. "Beginning" is a beautiful rubato piece where the relationship between the piano melodies and the rhythm section accompaniment remains elusive but makes itself thoroughly felt.
I don't think he has any other discs with this trio, but I'm wondering what else is worth checking out.
