The Wildbunch.

There is a thread somewhere about repeatedly playing songs, but I'm too lazy arsed to find it. I stuck this on repeat play on my walkman on the way home last night cos it's just FAN bloody TASTIC.

Only came across it on 2manydjs, the website for which claims that the white stripes are on vocals. hmmm, not sure I believe that.

This is where you say, right you are, or "oh that's so last year"

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, you're right. It really leapt out on 2 Many DJs. I assumed it was some lost 1981 Euro-disco-metal German classic, that's how good it is! Where did you get the full-length MP3 you bastard?

Tom, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yep, the song is bloody great! fucked up adrenaline-stuffed vocals over a great beat, and guitars.
and yep, jack white does provide some of the vocals, in the chorus that is. the other guy you hear is the band's own singer i guess.

willem, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dang-ah! Dang-ah! Italics!

Can someone put the MP3 onto Grokepile if I email them the login and password? (Or someone with the MP3 and a FilePile account...?)

Tom, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Go on then.

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it was up on filepile before but i'll repost it.

detroit's finest are apparently on the verge of signing to a uk indie.

stirmonster, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Indie? Knackers to that - they want this licensed on one of the dance labels that knows how to make a single a monster hit, and then parlay that into a bigger deal.

Tom, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am being totally 100% honest when I say that this is the first time I have ever seen/heard the word "parlay" used in conversation by anyone but a drug dealer......this is simply how my life works.

Ramosi, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That's because I just passed my drug dealership exams, Ramosi.

Its weird cuz I downloaded it a while back (before I bought 2Many Djs). Interest piqued because of Wildbunch mixup I always have. Stephen or David Dewaele said in interview that they tracked it down. Could be the case cuz both groups come from same area, no? Ohio? Detroit? I don't think its really *wow* but fun nonetheless. Uh yeah... whatever.

nathalie, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Picture Tom sitting on a cold, slimy brixton stoop next to his cohort "Bhangra" Benny Bhatti (who brought the stellar tunes), Tom rocking one of those paper-thin "SAIGON" t-shirts, his nipples boldly jutting out in the breeze, perfectly framing his garish iced- out "T.E." medallion.....he chuckles, "Blimey, a few more weeks of punting these macadamia nuts to these wankers and this medallion will no longer be made of glass and metal!" Benny says, "Trife for life....yup......cor!"

Ramosi, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Check your local indie record shop, there were like 5 copies of the 7" here just last week. It really is great!

joel, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am most disappointed that this thread is not about ACDC.

alext, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i'd say there's at least a minor element of homage...

minna, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Explain yourself

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

other than the title: the theatrical, campy vocals; the rawk guitar; dead simple but dead effective chord progression (is it the same for both high voltages?); the plodding 4/4 backbeat... yes, it's disco, but you could easily play acdc in a disco.

minna, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Initially I thought it was some ancient ZTT/Nina Hagen-rip thing -- and it's NOT! Saviours of THE ROCK funk on out, at least vocally!

Michael Daddino, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Wild Bunch are from suburban Detroit, the missing link btwn Insane Clown Posse and The White Stripes (both of whom are supposedly buddies of theirs). I saw them a few years ago and they were pretty fun, kind of goofy novelty band stuff really. Their hit then was a song called "Gay Bar".

fritz, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you can get gay bar (and indeed almost all their stuff except Danger!) from their site at the-wildbunch.com. it's OK, i'm not as instantly in love with their other stuff -- it does have something tho, so i'm giving it a go.

I take it that "High Voltage!" is the title of an AC/DC track.

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

An album, at least.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

...which contains a song of the same name. I prefer "TNT" though, from that album.

Sean Carruthers, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

eight months pass...
"Trife for life"

?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 8 January 2003 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

two months pass...
I've always been confused about this one. Is the version on the 2manyDJs album a bootleg or not? If it is, what is it mixed with and why don't they tell you? why is the title the same? how are you supposed to tell the original and the bootleg apart? AARG

Dan I. (Dan I.), Sunday, 9 March 2003 10:14 (twenty-two years ago)

... which claims that the white stripes are on vocals

Jack White sings along on the track, the higher voice, and the Tom Jones-like voice is the singer of Electric 6 (Dick Valentine)

zilverberg.tk (zilverberg.tk), Sunday, 9 March 2003 11:00 (twenty-two years ago)

tis not a bootleg dan

minna (minna), Sunday, 9 March 2003 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Any song that rhymes "Taco Bell" with "gates of hell" is alright by me.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 9 March 2003 20:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I still LOVE this song. every single lyric is worth shouting out of car windows.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 9 March 2003 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, it gets better and better w/every play.
