A clear-cut case of style over substance?

-or-

Glam is the new freak-folk, and he's way ahead of the curve.

you decide...

His voice is not his own and he is the product of a discourse is what I long ago decided.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 22 February 2007 15:26 (eighteen years ago)

Needs a better haircut.

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 22 February 2007 15:33 (eighteen years ago)

Agreed. As much as I would like Levi to usher the Velver Tinmine aesthetic into the 21st century, we're far better off with the likes of Electronicat.

er, VelveT...

I hope you didn't mean Jamie T there.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 22 February 2007 15:38 (eighteen years ago)

My initial repulsion to Jamie T makes me feel a bit of the curmudgeon. I do like the bass guitar song, and the ska vibe that comes through on certain of his songs. Snotty voice, though I guess one could have said the same of Joe Strummer back in the day.

i quite like Pop Levi. surely a cover of 'Reelin' In The Years' cannot be too far away now.

I like him too, but I'm not blind to the issues some people might have with him/his music. It's as much about the presentation as it is the songs.

I think he's great. Not his haircut, the album.

zeus, Friday, 23 February 2007 10:19 (eighteen years ago)

I must admit I would have been more kindly inclined towards his music if he'd had short back and sides and wore a sober suit and tie.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 23 February 2007 10:29 (eighteen years ago)

presonally, i prefer the ep hollywood version of 'from the day that you were born' meself over the album version, but the whole thing does all feel a little made to measure
