Can someone convince me that Televisions Adventure album is not mediocre?

Marquee Moon, is obviously a landmark, but try as I might I just cant get into Adventure. What am I missing? Or is Adventure jsut a ho-hum record?

Start at the end, grasshopper. Seriously--"The Dream's Dream" is one of my favorite songs ever--so otherworldly and epic. I really love Adventure, though it is obviously overshadowed by Marquee Moon. Adventure is more reflective/meditative overall--though it does kick out the jams with "Foxhole" and "Ain't That Nothin'". There's some beautiful playing on there--the riff that opens "Days" is one that always gets me. It's funny though--Television really could've made a different album altogether. On bootlegs between Marquee and Adventure, you can hear songs like "O Mi Amore," "Breakin' in My Heart" and "Adventure" that are definitely poppier/more immediate than some of the stuff that ended up on the album. "O Mi Amore" in particular--I'm kind of convinced that song would've been a hit had they recorded and released it! In closing: "I Love Adventure!"

"Days" is so beautiful, even better than the Kinks' "Days"

Neat trivia: The guitar part on "Days" is apparently the Byrds' "Mr. Tambourine Man" riff inverted or backwards or something. At least I think Richard Lloyd said it was somewhere.

coincidentally, I just picked up Adventure this week, after a decade of being a huge fan of Marquee Moon and wanting to hear the follow-up that supposedly was almost as good. on first listen, it's not doing anything for me at all, either. I think I'm mainly disappointed by the relative lack of guitar heroics. I'll keep giving it a chance, though.

just seems like theres on energy or intensity in it, especilly in comparison to marquee moon...maybe it takes repeated listenings...

I don't get how people don't get it, to be honest.

Not that I did at the time, granted. I think "The Dream's dream" just isn't a good way to end an album. Now, with the title track, it adds a closure and now is a 4 star album to Marquee Moon's five.

I say so.

For years, my impression of Television was based on this. It's nowhere near as good as [i]Marquee Moon[i] but "Days" is spectacular.
