speaking of chris goss, the new goon moon album is pretty cool.

mellow, fun, not gonna change anyone's life, but worth some spins. chris, twiggy ramirez, josh, the dude from hella, others. kind of a mellow masters of the stone age vibe. i just love hearing chris sing. and twiggy ain't bad either! i never heard the other album they did. cool beegees cover.

Had never heard about this! Who released it?

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 25 February 2007 17:00 (eighteen years ago)

Ipecac

scott seward, Sunday, 25 February 2007 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

i guess twiggy goes by his real name now, but i can't remember what it is.

scott seward, Sunday, 25 February 2007 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

I shouldn't be surprised, thanks for the tip. Oh yeah, that Dodheimsgard album was pretty good!

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 25 February 2007 17:05 (eighteen years ago)

the first album was on suicide squeeze:

yah, i really dig dodheimsgard. they do up the electro-metal pretty rightously. colin s. mole should check them out if he hasn't already.

scott seward, Sunday, 25 February 2007 17:07 (eighteen years ago)

He should -- has he been on the Rolling Metal thread yet since his return? He has stories of LA to share.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 25 February 2007 17:07 (eighteen years ago)

did you guys hang out? that's cool.

scott seward, Sunday, 25 February 2007 17:09 (eighteen years ago)

I only wish! He and his wife were totally busy but it sounds like they had a fun time. Apparently he was doing some soundtrack work for some suspicious films. If you will.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 25 February 2007 17:10 (eighteen years ago)

i'm always learning new things about people here. very interesting. i don't even know if i knew that he made music.

scott seward, Sunday, 25 February 2007 17:14 (eighteen years ago)

He does and has for a bit; in fact he goes by Moley in part because of his professional work otherwise (he charted in Australia once years back? you'd have to ask him!).

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 25 February 2007 17:17 (eighteen years ago)

two years pass...

somehow i didn't even get that pine/cross dover had been released. what do people think of it?? fyi my favorite masters of reality album is blue garden, then sunrise on the sufferbus, then frankly pretty much everything after that i thought sorta sucked big hinie.

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 16 December 2009 20:25 (sixteen years ago)

I like it, but i disagree strongly that everything after sunrise sucks.

Pfunkboy : The Dronelord vs The Girly Metal Daleks (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 16 December 2009 20:27 (sixteen years ago)

first album and sunrise are two of my favorite rock records of all time, but i never really went any deeper than that, to be honest. it was too long a wait from sunrise to the third album! i had stopped looking for new stuff by then.

scott seward, Wednesday, 16 December 2009 20:42 (sixteen years ago)

my high school band did a cover of "sleepwalkin". then sunrise came out and it was incredible, ginger baker was amazing, i went to college and sang "rabbit one" in a bar called Baci, the sky was the limit. then i got into techno, moved to new york, got a job.. and one afternoon on a friend's vast wall of CDs i saw some new masters of reality album, something i'd never seen before. we put it on and it was like a bad dream - nothing like i'd remembered, not even a twitch of recognition. i was so disappointed i think i resolved never to think about masters of reality again beyond those two albums, as if they'd died or something.

On a related note, Tim Harrington who was the co-founder of the original MoR and a huge talent in his own right has a new album out with his band Creepjoint. On the MySpace site the song "Kill the Head" is just devastating.

the guy from les savy fav?

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 16 December 2009 21:43 (sixteen years ago)

Sorry. I knew that question was coming after I pressed ENTER. Two diff dudes.

Herman i kinda like that song you linked.. something seems missing though. it's like two vamps, that's it. sunrise was already heading that way, but so much of what i love about MoR is how they married riffs with real melodies and songs. plus the drumming.. i mean god i loved that first drummer. maybe more than ginger baker, frankly. the stuff he pulls off at the end of kill the king is just... wow.

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 16 December 2009 22:17 (sixteen years ago)

sorry, lost my train of thought - the drumming on that song is like, well, it's competent, but pretty martial and basic and nothing much happens with it..

The version on Give Us Barabbas is even better

Drummer = Vinnie Ludovico.

I think the Masters on the first album is a superior band to the one found on Sunrise (which I like). It's just not as ambitious as MoR 1.0.

There used to be like three copies of that album in every used record shop (I assume returned by people who mistook it for the Black Sabbath album) (but I always wondered who these people were, who liked Sabbath but not MoR!)

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 17 December 2009 00:05 (sixteen years ago)

x-post

Yeah, if someone wants it who doesn't have it, then go for it. I think this records needs to be appreciated by as many folks as possible.
