The Hours - Narcissus Road

I've listened to The Hours debut, _Narcissus Road_, twice now and I really like it. But I've got this nagging feeling that it's been created in a calculating way to get an emotional response. Sort of like, "Ok, let's start with an empowering lyric, build up with piano and then BOMBAST!" Am I being too cynical?

twinkle twinkle little star who the fuck do you think you are.

up till this moment i was rather uninterested due to excessive Keane-isms (ie the aforementioned pattern is spot on), then this comes at you from an angle, and from thereon the album seems to be alright in a 2007 styled epic piano/guitar album.

Oddly enough, I had my first listen today on the way to work after having been really obsessed with "Ali in the Jungle" earlier this week. I think I was expecting the single to be a kind of oddly-arranged opening gambit, with the album getting bigger after that. Particularly given the pres that Slattery gets for his past work. Instead I found that first track was really the most epic, at least in sound, and the rest played out -- well, not as twee as Keane, but otherwise not a bad comparison. Disappointing. I'm sure it needs another listen though.

two months pass...
Anyone have any further thoughts? I'm still torn about this one.
