It's nice to see a success story about a kid who works hard, pays his dues, and convinces his father Berry Gordy to release a song with vocals by Michael and Jermaine Jackson.

The mailman at the end is class.

Man, fuck Rockwell.

Saxby D. Elder, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 06:24 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah - whenever I pass 'Rockwell Street' in Chicago - I always quip that 'I always feel like somebody's watching me' - that never gets old ...

BlackIronPrison, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 15:51 (eighteen years ago)

Jermaine sings on it too?

Mark Rich@rdson, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 15:59 (eighteen years ago)

his "taxman" is kinda cool.

"Obscene Phone Caller" was a stretch, a half-baked cash-in on the success of his big hit...

henry s, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 16:42 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, he was on the track too, although for some reason people paid more attention to Michael...

"Somebody's Watching Me" was great, but I don't know how much Rockwell provided himself, really.

Yeah, and I hear Tito was in the room...

B-b-but I thought he was wary of nepotism and therefore approached a DIFFERENT label (Epic?) and kept the news from Dad until he was officially signed! Or at least, that's the way Casey Kasem told it, if I'm remembering it right. (Not a guarantee...)

Anyway, I regret to say that "Somebody's Watching Me" was the rare '84 hit that I really didn't like much at all. Felt like a novelty hit that wasn't particularly novel. The spoken part was kinda likable but the attempted English accent really annoyed me. I liked his "Taxman" cover a lot more, tho it wasn't nearly as big a hit.

Don't care about no Rockwell. "Somebody's Watching Me", however, = the shizznit.
