Avey Tare and Kria Brekken (from Mum) - Pullhair Rubeye ....Backwards?? WUH

So, the collaboration between Avey Tare of Animal Collective and Kria Brekken from Mum has leaked. It's a release that I've been looking forward to hearing for months.

I haven't listened to it yet, but the comments on OiNK are slightly alarming. A sample:

give me a break. all the tracks are backwards? ANNOYING
--------
i just reversed all the backwards tracks to their forward direction. so nice. also, if you have a recording program such as audition, cool edit pro, etc.. pitch bend sasong down an octave to get the natural unpitched version. very pretty!
--------
WAIT is it supposed to sound like this or is it truly backwwards?
--------
...It's not a joke. I got the CD and e-mailed the right people to make sure. The early leak of "Sis Around the Sandmill," that's accessable on the Paw Tracks site is just as backwards as it is on the album. You're going to have to face the fact that this is the album.

And if you listen to the album, there are lyrics and passages that are "forward." I know some of you are disappointed that the album is backwards and I'm sorry that you don't/aren't going to like it.
---------
i think they are f**king with everyone. a slap to the face for leak downloaders.
---------
straight from Avey Tare:

"
hey guys that is indeed the record, no tricks involved here, no concepts. We just really like it that way. Hope thats cool. Were not bummed. i hope youre not.

d"

So as I figured, it's the real deal. So don't feck with anything!

Hm.

Is this coming out on vinyl? Two albums for the price of one, oh yeah... It's obviously very gimmicky, but I reckon these guys stand a chance of pulling it off.

I'm a big fan of this album. I've listened through it about 10 times so far and while it took me a bit to come to terms with the idea of reversing an entire album I'm pretty much okay with it (the idea) now. I can definitely understand why tons of people will be immediately, if not pre-emptively turned off though.

what a dick move. being clever is the new stupid.

I honestly don't think it's meant to be clever-clever. Obviously, I've yet to hear it, so it may well be cocking rubbish, but it seems like a good, fun idea. DO YOU HATE FUN?

YES!

Wait, I think I have this album. And it's not backwards. I have an Avey Tare with Kria Brekken live at the stone. Is this it, or do they have a studio album?

four years pass...

I found this boxed up at my mum's house and decided to give it another listen after it didn't leave much of an impression when it came out - a bit surprised by how lovely it is (maybe best detached from hype + fury), very warm and intimate. I remember in an interview they said something about how they wanted it to sound like the things they listen to when they're lying in bed together, and it does feel very fitting for that setting.

Yeah, I like it as well. I mean, it's not among my favorite ac-related albums, but I like it more than Campfire Songs or Young Prayer. It sounds enveloping, really.
