I've only heard the first three tracks, but they are really fucking brilliant. Anyone heard the full album?

I was kind of underwhelmed, but dense stuff like this usually creeps up on me. I may be really into it in a few.

I liked the split with Techno Animal a lot and I have a couple of other albums by them that were pretty good, but I haven't listened to any of it in ages. They didn't strike me as a group with a tremendous range. What does the Faust record sound like?

Is this the one with Tom Hazelmyer of Halo of Flies/Amphetamine Reptile fame?

Any different from previous Dalek stuff? I heard an album a couple of years ago and it was quite good but I can imagine them being a bit of a one trick poney?

There's some creepy drone tracks which aren't like anything I've heard from them before, and one of two quite uh 'accessible' numbers that strip most of the noise away, so yeah they do mix it up a bit here

this is actually really good and quite different from the other records of theirs I've heard

compared to past efforts, the sonic palette seems deliberately limited (cf. that weird woozy brass-like sound that periodically resurfaces throughout the album). on first listen this seemed intended to draw the attention more towards the vocals, but now I'm not so sure -- the beats are actually pretty interesting in their own right, as pretty/spooky droning soundscapes. I feel like the rapping could be in another language and I wouldn't really notice or mind.

DJ Still has been replaced by the guitarist from Destructo Swarmbots in a live setting. It was pretty cool to watch Still blow into the stylus and scratch records so hard they'd break, but the guy from Destructo Swarmbots does some crazy kinetic shit up there, too. Ultimately, it's all about what soundscapes Oktopus puts together with the sampler and drum pad, so the new record (aside from more easily-discernable vocals) isn't really all that different.
