Pfffft.

Rockist Scientist, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 22:48 (nineteen years ago)

I am drinking again, oh
I'm on my seventh cold glass of gin, oh

Life is a tribute to you
And so is dying
And drinking in this way
To die is what I'm trying
I also try to keep my looks
In case an angel loves me
And lifts me up with angel hooks
To someplace high above (me)

I am drinking again, oh
I'm on my ninth cold glass of gin, oh

And people argue with me
But I have never been stronger
Nor held so strong a feeling
Inside of me longer
With no one at all knowing
O but I know
Just what I need to live this life
Oh...

And all of us here
Raise our eyes and our spirits
Our hands and our voices
That your ears may hear it

I am drinking again and I toast you
Who will never know what it is that I do

Crowded House. As Depeche Mode and Genesis both did their best work (at least most, in the case of Depeche Mode) more than 20 years ago.

i'd agree with Yo La Tengo as "the answer", if it weren't for another little outfit called Sonic Youth.

outdoor_miner, Friday, 2 March 2007 01:27 (nineteen years ago)

Toss-up between Pavement and Tony Toni Tone.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Friday, 2 March 2007 02:31 (nineteen years ago)

Serious answer: Fugazi

Hurting 2, Friday, 2 March 2007 02:33 (nineteen years ago)

Mine was a serious answer too!

I'm not really sure what the appeal of Yo La Tengo is... They obviously have good taste in music, and are capable musicians, but their songwriting abilities seem distinctly mediocre to me.

Richard Wood Johnson, Sunday, 4 March 2007 04:12 (nineteen years ago)

Also their singing sucks (from what I've heard of them--and I'm not planning on pursuing it further).

The Spin Doctors, duh.

Dr. Joseph A. Ofalt, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 02:03 (nineteen years ago)

Slightly disturbing to think that Sonic Youth's best album falls just inside (or outside, depending on how one feels about Evol!) the 20-year mark.

Sundar, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 02:14 (nineteen years ago)

I think Bill Frisell's my favourite artist - I'll even call him a rock artist - of the past 20 years. He's not a band though.

Sundar, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 02:19 (nineteen years ago)

Let's hear it for The Breeders, wooot!

New Pornographers, I s'pose.
