bands with two guitars, no bass

Some of my favorite bands this decade feature two guitars with no bass: arab on radar, natural dreamers, yowie. And don't meshuggah's new custom guitars make a bass player superfluous, mostly?

Other bands like this? Is this mostly a newer trend? (Pardon my ignorance.)

Sleater-Kinney and JSBX are probably my favorites.

Pussy Galore had 3 guitars I think.

On a side note, are there any (other) bands with 3+ guitars and no bass?

Bill Bary, Friday, 2 March 2007 04:57 (eighteen years ago)

Do Sleater-Kinney and JSBX really count? Jon Spencer and Corin Tucker both play guitars detuned down to bass frequencies. They definitely cover the low end in a manner similar to a bass player. What about bands with absolutely no low end??

The Fall now have two bassists..

Did Plan 9 have a bassist? 9 guitars kinda makes bass irrelevant, in any case.

The Electric Eels.

Interestingly, Eels drummer Nick Knox later joined the Cramps.

The Dead C.

US Maple, although possibly not if you're taking the low-end cop-out as stated above.
