TS: Mason's "Exceeder" or Princess Superstar vs Mason's "Perfect Exceeder"

The original is a brilliant dance track, of course, and with the added lyrics it becomes a brilliant pop song. And it made [Removed Illegal Link] into something actually listenable. Naturally everyone here will pick the original because the version with vocals is more commercial = bad, but you have to admit it puts up a good fight and is catchy as hell.

Youtube links are illegal? I linked to the music vid for Princess Superstar's "Perfect," if you're curious.

I've never heard the original, but the mash-up sounds like Gwen Stefani meets Vitalic, which is fucking awesome as far as I'm concerned.

Perhaps this link will work? Anyway, I heart Princess Superstar, and I am very glad this is taking off...

the mason vs princess superstar version is brilliant, am very taken with this sort of cheesy house (also see fedde le grand, bodyrox and luciana). should have kept in the "while other bitches botox i blow cocks" line though.

This has been getting played a lot on my local ghey house station. That makes me happy. I'd only heard of Princess Superstar before and had assumed she was probably the worst thing ever. I'm glad to be disproven.

The Reverend, Saturday, 3 March 2007 19:27 (eighteen years ago)

Although, judging by that video, maybe she is the worst thing ever. I don't think I got more than half a minute into it before I was consumed by self-hatred for liking this song.

The Reverend, Saturday, 3 March 2007 19:30 (eighteen years ago)

i don't really like either but probably prefer the original because i think putting rap lyrics over faster house beat they weren't originally intended for tends to come off quite clunky (lol some degree of ironing here)

blueski, Saturday, 3 March 2007 19:35 (eighteen years ago)

Which video do you mean, the Perfect video or the Perfect Exceeder video? Princess Superstar isn't in the second one.

lex OTM, my main thought while listening to the original Perfect was that there were so many other good lines that could have been used....

The latter. Which doesn't change my opinion of it slightly.

The Reverend, Saturday, 3 March 2007 22:01 (eighteen years ago)

i don't really see how adding rap lyrics to any house beat can be a bad thing. i unequivocally support all hip-house mashups.

moonship journey to baja, Saturday, 3 March 2007 22:04 (eighteen years ago)

OTOH this is not particularly inspiring next to something like ghostface vs cassius or bugz in the attic vs q-tip or even matthew jonson vs lil kim

moonship journey to baja, Saturday, 3 March 2007 22:06 (eighteen years ago)

also i'm confused by the idea of the original as a "brilliant dance track". this is the sort of thing guys like seamus haji and steve angello come up with while they're brushing their teeth? and like every other electrohouse anthem, it sounds all the rest of the electrohouse anthems from the past six months rolled into one. i think you have to have a really short attention span to be really into electrohouse.

moonship journey to baja, Saturday, 3 March 2007 22:11 (eighteen years ago)

i want a hip-house mashup along exactly these lines of trick daddy and trina's 'nann nigga'. please someone make this happen.

I agree wholeheartedly, even though theses records are, in some ways, oh so wrong. Exceeder is on my ipod playlist for going running and so is the new fedde le Grand v Camille Jones and I don't mind admitting they give me a real whoosh every time they come on...

Iain Macdonald, Sunday, 4 March 2007 17:13 (eighteen years ago)

I'm with Princess Superstar. I'm also confused, though - the version I like is all lyrics ("the hips, the tits, the eyes, the waist"), but the only one I've managed to download has big empty spaces where many of these lyrics should be. Which version should I be looking for?

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 4 March 2007 19:45 (eighteen years ago)

The version with the lyrics is "Perfect Exceeder".

Okay moonship, let's say this is a very average dance track...what would you recommend that would blow my mind? I'll check out the mash-ups you mentioned.

eight years pass...

This has re-emerged in a new guise. Not up to the original (mashup) but pretty addictive all the same:

one year passes...

"My video for Perfect has over 15 million views and I wasn't in it. Ministry of Sound went ahead and made a video for my song without even telling me- even though contractually I had creative control. It was devastating at the time -but I've forgiven them though because I'm like the Jesus of Electro. #forgivethemtheyknownotwhattheydo"

Not sure what to make of this. She's talking about Perfect Exceeder, so "my song" is a bit nebulous. I mean, what's the complaint really about? That she didn't physically appear in her most popular video? Or that she wanted to make her own version (which she did anyway)? She's so awful now it's hard to sympathize.

Exceeder and Perfect (Exceeder) are classics both. That Sara Landry edit goes off - you could probably force any number of tracks through that grinder and they'd come out similarly ruthless.

I love a bit of hard house but that Sara Landry edit is terrible. The original was charming in how much space it had, the way the synths seemed to bend and refract around strobelights. This version takes all the glitter and shimmer and turns it into really generic bosh.
