Not much anticipation time though.

Well, I am, though my friend says it's not much cop.

When's it out?

Monday

Truthfully this album is a little boring.

calstars, Saturday, 3 March 2007 17:19 (nineteen years ago)

I like the single quite a bit.

The Reverend, Saturday, 3 March 2007 19:31 (nineteen years ago)

Beautiful album. Listen on headphones.

Capitaine Jay Vee, Saturday, 3 March 2007 21:20 (nineteen years ago)

We already beat this album up in the sandbox. Apart from "Mer du Japon," it's a snooze.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 3 March 2007 21:23 (nineteen years ago)

I really wanted to like it!

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 3 March 2007 21:28 (nineteen years ago)

I don't have all of it, but it seems pretty good from where I'm sittin'. More like the Virgin Suicides soundtrack than any of their others I think. But Loungier. Like The Sea and Cake in bits, which surprised me more, perhaps, than it should. I really like the Neil Hannon one. Another surprise. For a second I kinda thought it was Robert Wyatt. That surprised me more.

This is all I can kind of say for now. Until I really give it a good listen.

I actually quite enjoyed it, and I think I rank it above Moon Safari and Talkie Walkie. I fell asleep to it for about a week (in a good way, it's a really nice album to go to bed to). I still enjoy Premiers Symptomes more and possibly 10,000hz Legend too but I'm really satisfied with this album. And I'm seconding that it's great with headphones.

Bus Driver Stu, Saturday, 3 March 2007 23:01 (nineteen years ago)

I enjoyed it the first time through, but on repeated listens it stalls until the last 3 or 4 tracks.

calstars, Saturday, 3 March 2007 23:15 (nineteen years ago)

Most of it sounds like instrumental outtakes of that Charlotte Gainsbourg album, which itself sounds pretty derivative. Although, as noted, 'Mer du Japon' does stand out.

baaderonixx, Monday, 5 March 2007 09:09 (nineteen years ago)

Well I'm liking this a lot, right now... Whether it sticks or not, time will tell, but only a couple of fillers, IMO.

Keith, Monday, 5 March 2007 20:07 (nineteen years ago)

Listening to this right now and it's still as dull as I remembered, but 'Mer du Japon' really sticks out. It reminds me of the "Premiers Symptomes" period. I can't understand why they don't try this propulsive kind of thing more.

baaderonixx, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 11:31 (nineteen years ago)

Mer du Japon is the only one I don't have yet. One second....

I know, right?, Thursday, 8 March 2007 21:12 (nineteen years ago)

I thought it was boring at first, but I really enjoy it while driving and in the background. The songs take longer to develop than usual, but there is a point.

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 8 March 2007 21:32 (nineteen years ago)

Nice album.
Possibly best sice Moon Safari/Suicides OST.
Give it a few listens and it grows on you.

Possibly best sice Moon Safari/Suicides OST

ten months pass...

i love this & really dont get why it wasnt bigger when end-of-the-year shit came around

and what, Monday, 21 January 2008 00:29 (eighteen years ago)

I gave this a buncha listens and it never sounded anything but boring.

Simon H., Monday, 21 January 2008 00:43 (eighteen years ago)

I like it, but it's very much a mood thing and never really hits great heights, although I think Tony Allen "Once Upon a Time" is my favorite drumming of last year.

The Reverend, Monday, 21 January 2008 00:47 (eighteen years ago)

Tony Allen ON...

The Reverend, Monday, 21 January 2008 00:47 (eighteen years ago)

*clap clap* Tony Allen OFF

Both this and the The Good, The Bad & The Queen album are perfectly okay but piss me off with their criminal underuse of Tony Allen. What's the point of having him on board if you're not going to let him cut loose with his whole "dear god, how many limbs does that man have" Afrobeat thing?

Telephone thing, Monday, 21 January 2008 06:24 (eighteen years ago)

there's another, equally short thread:
Air - Pocket Symphmny

great album.

gr8080, Monday, 21 January 2008 06:29 (eighteen years ago)

xp: "Once Upon a Time" is the only song Allan is on.

The Reverend, Monday, 21 January 2008 12:02 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, that's Air off the hook then. I'm still very, very disappointed in Albarn and company though.

Telephone thing, Monday, 21 January 2008 13:10 (eighteen years ago)

i was pretty into this when it came out! should revisit.

s1ocki, Monday, 21 January 2008 13:47 (eighteen years ago)

It's still pretty! I just listened to it.

The Reverend, Monday, 21 January 2008 13:59 (eighteen years ago)

A grower for sure, I ended up quite liking "One Hell of a Party"
