Oh:

Gudrun currently runs the Monika Enterprise and Moabit Musik labels, was a early member of Einstürzende Neubauten and most famously founded the 1980s band Malaria! She has collaborated with Blixa Bargeld, Anita Lane, Thomas Fehlmann, etc

That "Firething" song with Anita Lane seems just like standard disco/techno with a pop element through the vocals. The other cuts are a bit more intriguing.

I *love* Firething... I'm not sure it's quite "standard" pop in the vocals at all.

Also, I Put a Record On, as stated clearly in the press release, is absolutely her first completely solo full length. Everything else has been less than a full length or a collaboration.

four weeks pass...

Meh. It just seemed pointless to have another thread started when there was already some ongoing discussion about this record on new answers, and as much as Monika and Gudrun are "different entities" (come on though, it's HER LABEL) People don't really complain about Ellen Allien discussions under a Bpitch thread for instance, the Kompakt one seems to cope ok too.

I'm not saying it doesn't deserve it's own thread, I just hate having to follow two at the same time on the same day for no good reason.

I wasn't saying "Firething" was on the album, but I'm not sure if that was directed at me.

Anyway this IS good, so far. Very confident (quietly) and assured. No fat on this sound at all!

i finally figured out where that melody on 'Tip Tip' came from--John Cale's 'Riverbank' from Honi Soit. this was driving me crazy.

it does bug me that the single is the first track. it's a great one, but i played it constantly for a few weeks when it came out. but, whatever--most people won't have heard it, i reckon.

Knew the name sounded familiar. Beate Bartel was in Liaisons Dangereuses (1981), and with Gudrun, a founding member of Einstürzende Neubauten (1980-), Mania D. (1980), and Matator (1987-91).

Is there even a Beate Bartel / Liaisons Dangereuses thread?

Obviously, I knew Niños del Parque from a youth misspent in goth/industrial clubs, but I didn't ever find out who it was by until researching the Düsseldorf scene. And that suddenly exploded backwards into checking out Mania D / Malaria! / Matador, and now I'm just becoming obsessed with these women, finding out all of the things that Beate Bartel and Gudrun Gut were involved with is just mindblowing. They seem like such pivotal people who have done SO MUCH amazing stuff, but most of what I'm finding about their origins is kind of asides in Neubauten biographies.
