Taking Sides: the Gyrations vs. Internal Combustion

Both bands have growing cult audiences, fans trumpeting the supposed importance of these pioneers of folk-psych-techno fusion. The Gyrations always seemed the more potent to me, their lyrics and sound combining to create a rickety landscape of dance beats ready to fly apart at any second into a swirl of strummed guitar whirl. Internal Combustion also seemed much more forced, the looseness of the psych slightly strangled by the drive to dance and repeated lyrics ad nauseum.

internal combustion's first one was more of an ode to obsessive- compulsive disorders...legend goes that members met in mental ward...so the whole repeated lyrics thing was really impressing that factor...what did darby say? "forcing wellness over life's confusion"
