Has any other band ever had hits with so many different genres of songs?

Of course: Queen!

But did Blondie really have any hits that sounded punk? Which ones?

one year passes...

It's all about Rapture, damnit. Get with the program.

It's actually all about "Picture This."

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Monday, 10 March 2008 05:25 (eighteen years ago)

"I'm On E" maybe?

Speaking of which, I thought this was a pretty great electro remix of "Heart of Glass":

Jesse Garcia must represent a Barcelona/Madrid axis of the 90's electro revival, but his other remixes aren't nearly as engaging to these ears. Do any dance cognoscenti know if he's nicking somebody else's sound for this mix - in particular the clean syncopated stereo pings surrounding the pedestrian beat.

'rip her to shreds' is pretty punk

m coleman, Monday, 10 March 2008 09:48 (eighteen years ago)

of course not as punk as y'know Ashley Simpson (remember HER?) or somebody

m coleman, Monday, 10 March 2008 09:49 (eighteen years ago)

in fact those lyrics could be applied to ms simpson or any of a dozen current songstresses as in:

SHE'S SO DULL/C'MON RIP HER TO SHREDS

m coleman, Monday, 10 March 2008 09:50 (eighteen years ago)

but my favorite blondie moment is the "rapture" video not cause it's authentic rap rather it takes me back.

nostalgia de la boue y'all

"Rapture" didn't work out well (and, I mean, Wham! did the same genre in a great way around the same time), but the rest of the genre experiments were quite good. Also add reggae.

Dunno if I would call even their earliest material punk. Punky, yes, but not punk. Their punk pop may have been an important influence on today's punk poppers such as Avril Lavigne, Pink and Kelly Clarkson though.

"Rapture" was brilliant you fucking idiot.

Well, personally I would say more or less all of Blondie's best work was made in the 70s. Those first four albums were all great. After that, nothing more, really....
