My friend MC Cat Genius and his partner in rhyme, OBELISK, are going on a small tour during Spring Break, and they're having trouble booking a Minneapolis show on March 28. Can anyone help out? Thanks, etc.

it doesn't sound promising. you might look for venues in city pages or try craigslist.

i hear they used just rap at parks and shit back in the day, but i don't know if the cops would let you and if they didn't beat you up someone else would. you might try loring park.

one time i saw this dude in a bunny suit that rapped open for some shitty indie bands in st. paul. you could probably play there.

Just for general reference, it's:

OBELISK & MC Cat Genius; an airline pilot and a genius cat rap over the most dopestly lamest songs they can illegally sample, with complementary video projection and audience participation, and
Umbros; two sweaty guys play beat-driven instrumental guitar slow-jams with solemnly ridiculous stage motions.
and local band ZibraZibra has agreed to act as our local draw.

We really just need a house or a steamshovel to play at. I'll see if anything comes up for Loring Park. Do you remember where the St. Paul venue was?

oh fucking WEIRD!

the band artdamages saw - St. Pauli GRLA is actually playing that nite at Big Vs, the place I suggested....there's only three bands on the bill....they can usually accomodate 4 bands per night...you should totally email Joe Holland:

i dunno if dinkytowner would be into this cuz its more of a chill vibe and has a slightly older crowd. you could try that all ages place the kids hang out at afterschool maybe? i forget what its called (assuming it still exists i just read about it in the paper once). its probably in edina or something.

if these kids opened for the bunnysuit guy it would be way to much add for one evening

Kill the Vultures is from Minneapolis. Not that I have any idea whether they'd help you out with a show.

thanks for your input

artdamages, Saturday, 10 March 2007 00:52 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry, I take it back - I'm sure they wouldn't.

I emailed Big V's and St. Pauli GRLA, thanks for the leads! Matt, I'll send you an email. OrganHaus is a no-go -- Wednesday night in general seems tough. I haven't really gotten any leads in St. Paul previous to this so I appreciate it.

I think your best bet is to find Minneapolis acts that are on your wavelength and message them about possible shows/venues. They might be able to point you toward some local basement show-having dude if nothing else.
