I just got this e-mail from Amazon touting a sale on albums on this Top 200 list put together by the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame and the National Association of Recording Merchandisers, the key word being merchandise. It's pretty LOL-worthy - http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=pe_pe_13770_5016920_fe_exp_1/?docId=1000062961.

Wait until you see Matchbox 20 and Creed ranked ahead of London Calling!

200 snarky posts about The Clash by tea-time.

Here's one: Matchbox 20 were better than The Clash.

Most wtf placing in the Top 20 - Supernatural ?

black sabbath beat out jewel though. whew, that was close. she's been gaining on them for years.

scott seward, Friday, 9 March 2007 16:36 (eighteen years ago)

well yeah, I just chose the Clash as an example because Creed and MB20 were close to them in the rankings. also note that Big Willie Style is ahead of Nation of Millions

At a time when experimentation is taboo in most overground rap, that’s all Outkast seem intent on executing...Andre’s disc is sick (meaning great)...Speakerboxx and Love Below rate mostly as majestic and inspiring, with the remaining 23 per cent being just plain incredible

Dude got paid for that review.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 9 March 2007 16:39 (eighteen years ago)

hell freezes over by the eagles in the top 75!

I think this list is kinda loveable! I mean, he had Will Smith "Big Willie Style" above Blood on the Tracks and It Takes a Nation of Millions : )

I dunno...it's weird at first I thought it was going to be a typical boomer rock type list, but then he has a fair amount of popular rap albums and a big soft spot for girl nu country and stuff...i dunno, lots of the pick were suprirsing....like this is exactly what the list of someone that only paid attention to the most popular stuff and exclusively read Rolling Stone reviews would pick or something...but yeah overall there are way more boring and lame lists than this.

well it's obvious that record sales are heavily weighted, seeing as how it's put together by the merchandising association

stingy, Friday, 9 March 2007 16:47 (eighteen years ago)

oh okay nevermind, i thought this was one dude with real wierd tastes.

The list is rubbish but it will be pretty funny if the "inevitable debate" bit were a link to this thread.

THANK GOD... The Dixie Chicks beat out "Kind of Blue"... That is seriously a major relief off my mind... Thank you Amazon.com

This list is sooo RIAA/Industry insider. Supernatural, as Clive Davis' comeback, is as exciting to those people as the resuscitation of Mission of Burma is to indie nerds.
