Give us the list, dawg!

Tim Ellison, Sunday, 11 March 2007 01:38 (eighteen years ago)

According to Wikipedia the US and UK singles had different b-sides on occasion, so I assume we're going by the UK standard.

Old Brown Shoe
Things We Said Today
She's a Woman
I Am the Walrus
Rain

musically, Sunday, 11 March 2007 01:49 (eighteen years ago)

You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)
I'm Down
Rain
I'll Get You
Thank You Girl
Yes It Is
Don't Let Me Down

Hmm . . . I've set myself hard rules here, it seems: Nothing that made the U.S. Top 40, nothing that appeared on a UK album concurrent to single release, nothing that was part of a clear double-A-side like "Day Tripper"/"We Can Work It Out." Anyway, I'll stand by all the above-listed records.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Sunday, 11 March 2007 01:49 (eighteen years ago)

Are the two clear double a-sides Day Tripper/We Can Work It Out and Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields or are their others?

Tim Ellison, Sunday, 11 March 2007 01:51 (eighteen years ago)

Something/Come Together, and Eleanor Rigby/Yellow Submarine, of course.

I think "Something" was considered the a-side. Maybe "Yellow Submarine," too.

P.S. I Love You
Ask Me Why
This Boy
She's a Woman

This is kind of stupid, seeing as how there's only about 15 songs that meet that criteria, if I'm not mistaken, but anyway..

You Know My Name
Old Brown Shoe
Revolution
Don't Let Me Down
I Am The Walrus
Baby You're A Rich Man
Yes It Is
This Boy
Rain
Helter Skelter

I'm basing Something/Come Together on the fact that both were on the "1" album.

musically, Sunday, 11 March 2007 05:03 (eighteen years ago)

I just can't count "I Am the Walrus" as a B-SIDE. And I forgot "The Inner Light." Always liked that one.

1. Strawberry Fields Forever
2. Rain
3. Elenore Rigby
4. I Am The Walrus
5. This Boy
6. We Can Work It Out
7. Thank You Girl
8. I'll Get You
9. The Inner Light
10.Baby You're a Rich Man

"Come Together" was the b-side to "Something" and not the opposite way round, right? In which case, the b-side from that single doesn't qualify. "Something" would have been way up there in the Top 3.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 11 March 2007 12:53 (eighteen years ago)

This applies to U.S. chart position:

"Beginning with the Hot 100 of November 29, 1969, Billboard altered its method of compiling the chart, ranking both titles of double-sided hits in the same position. As a result, 'Come Together' and 'Something' both moved to the top of the chart for one week, becoming the first doulbe-sided number one single since Elvis Presley's 'Don't' and "I Beg of You' in 1958."

no luv for Ringoes adenoidal reading of "Act Naturally" on the flip of "Nowhere Man"???? I probably liked it cause that 45 was the very first record I bought w/my allowance and my dad was a Buck Owens fan.

I was sticking to UK singles list (more what Beatles wanted, as opposed to Capitol Rekkerds).

Tim Ellison, Sunday, 11 March 2007 18:02 (eighteen years ago)

I just can't count "I Am the Walrus" as a B-SIDE.

And yet it was.
