Back in a previous life I did one of them mp3 blogs, and though the files are long gone I still get comments from time to time.
Was recently contacted by a relative of a member of Dyan Diamond's band. (Dyan being associated w/Kim Fowley, sang for Venus & The Razorblades and recorded one good not-on-CD album called "In The Dark" that's well regarded by fans of that sort of thing.)
Seems that the deceased member of the band had masters for an unreleased album which he had claimed was "better than the album that came out," masters now in the posession of a relative. She is interested in 1. hearing them (which I'm assuming should be relatively easy...just find a studio w/tape capability and hope that they're mixed) and 2. possibly releasing them. I don't get the sense that money is a major motive. Based on what I know about the band (Dyan has gone missing, Kim Fowley is an asshole, etc.) I'd guess that the legal issues around a release might be daunting.
Anyone know of any labels these days that handle things like this (reissues of late 70's rock/new wave). I doubt this is much of a moneymaker, but I also know (based on the number of emails I've gotten about Dyan based on my little blog post) that there are people out there who'd buy it. Rhino handmade springs to mind? The relative who wrote me has zero connections w/the music biz, so I'm trying to be slightly helpful. And, of course, I'd love to hear the tracks myself if they turn out to be any good.
