Hurting 2, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 05:25 (eighteen years ago)

scott seward, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 05:34 (eighteen years ago)

Not rap, exactly, but: The Black Flames?

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 05:35 (eighteen years ago)

I wish there actually was a forgotten hip-hop act called Rap Division.

Hurting 2, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 05:40 (eighteen years ago)

thanks wiki!

"The group didn't return until 2001, when they dropped the rare underground release Declaration of Independence. In July 2006, Wise Intelligent's independent label, Intelligent Muzik, released a mixtape titled Blessed Be The Poor? - The Un-Mix Tape. In 2007, Wise Intelligent will release a second solo album titled Wise Intelligent iz...The Talented Timothy Taylor. A fifth Poor Righteous Teachers album is expected to follow the Wise Intelligent solo project."

Bobby Jimmy & The Critters?

scott seward, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 05:47 (eighteen years ago)

I think Camp Lo just put out an album last year.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 06:27 (eighteen years ago)

at least one of Das EFX is on the 90s remix of Nas' Where Are They Now. he's not exactly forthcoming with what happened to them though.

energy flash gordon, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 08:11 (eighteen years ago)

picked up a recent Das EFX album, How We Do yesterday (£1 Fopp bargain of course), not too bad. best part is the opening scratched up intro.

mark e, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 08:29 (eighteen years ago)

Heltah Skeltah?

Broke up after their second album, and now one of them records under his birth name Sean Price.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 08:30 (eighteen years ago)

Apani B Fly?

Every guest verse I've heard from her has been great, why hasn't she released a solo album?

Tuomas, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 08:34 (eighteen years ago)

I wish there actually was a forgotten hip-hop act called Rap Division.

http://www.xxlmag.com/online/?p=8291

also the whole boot camp just did a big club tour about 6 months ago.

and yeah ditto on Long Hot Summer....masta ace is amazing.

M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 15:13 (eighteen years ago)

damn, charli has had a rough road. pretty amazing that she's still trying to pust stuff out. most people would have given up a long time ago. she went from everywhere to nowhere so quick.

scott seward, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 15:30 (eighteen years ago)

is there really a new Freeway album coming out? continuing my "where you at, philly?" theme.

scott seward, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 15:33 (eighteen years ago)

where's Grand Puba?

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 15:40 (eighteen years ago)

joeski love... where'd he go? is he still making awkward and kind of awful house-tinged hip-hop? does he still sound like erick sermon yawning?

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

Grand Puba was just on Missy's last album.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 15:43 (eighteen years ago)

"Smif 'n' Wessun lka The Cocoa Brovas?"

They released an album last year, I think!

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 15:43 (eighteen years ago)

And yeah the Ruck half of Heltah Skeltah is now Sean Price, who just released his second album a couple of months ago. I think the other guy just quit.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 15:46 (eighteen years ago)

yeah Masta Ace is still dope, but we want the Inc.!
Slept on Hall of Fame: Ahmad (still doing the 4th Ave. Jones thing last I checked)

tremendoid, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 15:52 (eighteen years ago)

I was so dissappointed that D-Nice didn't show up on the "Where Are They Now?" remixes.

Oilyrags, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 16:10 (eighteen years ago)

That fat lad that used to hang around with Sean 'Puffy' Combs was a bit tasty, but you don't hear much about him anymore. Mind you, I've been out of the game a while.

MusicQuizKing, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 21:36 (eighteen years ago)

[i]Heltah Skeltah?

Broke up after their second album, and now one of them records under his birth name Sean Price.[i]

Rumors of a reunion. Sean Price is a case (like MF Doom) of a Where Are They Now? turning out to be currently more successful than they were when they were Where They Were Then.

mulla atari, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 22:26 (eighteen years ago)

yeah maybe you think sean p is more successful like artistically or whatever now but 'nocturnal' sold a quarter million copies

and what, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 22:36 (eighteen years ago)

i guess he is more successful with bandwagon-jumping newjacks who listen to mf doom

and what, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 22:37 (eighteen years ago)

i always feel bad for old rappers because people ask "where are they now" and the answer is usaually "they put out an album on some small indie last year that no one cared abt"

M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 22:40 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't realize Nocturnal sold so well. I really like that record. Nothing I've heard from Price since tops it (although plenty of his solo stuff is good.)

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 22:51 (eighteen years ago)

man when black moon and smif n wesson and all them first came out it was the best thing ever....love BCC

M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 23:00 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't say anything about artistic success. I prefer the Heltah Skeltah record to the Sean Price one I heard, but I think it's likely Price is making more now from selling around 100,000 copies of his solo stuff on an indie than he did from selling 250,000 as part of a group on a major label. At least he's now got individual recognition, whereas before he was a third-tier BCC member.

mulla atari, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 23:44 (eighteen years ago)

"but I think it's likely Price is making more now from selling around 100,000 copies of his solo stuff on an indie than he did from selling 250,000 as part of a group on a major label."

I wouldn't bet on it.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 23:47 (eighteen years ago)

Where's TRQ, the Republican rapper?

joygoat, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 23:48 (eighteen years ago)

I always wondered what happened to the other Leaders of the New School after Busta defected, but no enough to do any research or anything. Same with Black Sheep.

Binjominia, Thursday, 15 March 2007 00:39 (eighteen years ago)

Dres was doing a solo tour as recently as 2 years ago, and is the charter member of the free chiali coalition. I heard Mista Lawnge' s name recently in connection with...something.

tremendoid, Thursday, 15 March 2007 01:02 (eighteen years ago)

Dres was doing a solo tour as recently as December and released a pretty good album at the end of last year.

deej, Thursday, 15 March 2007 01:03 (eighteen years ago)

"i always feel bad for old rappers because people ask "where are they now" and the answer is usaually "they put out an album on some small indie last year that no one cared abt"

yeah, but you know what, it's true of a lot of genres. not just rap. lots of people end up putting out local CDs, playing local clubs, and have no national distro at all, you know. hey, i used to buy cash money vinyl mix albums that he would put out in philly. tons of people do stuff like that. some people do make you curious though. as to where they've been. and it's easy to miss even well-distributed small label stuff.

scott seward, Thursday, 15 March 2007 03:43 (eighteen years ago)
