Huge list of DC record stores...can someone glance over it and tell me which are worth stopping at?

I'm going to be in town tomorrow...which one or two places should I look around in?

That's a pretty out-dated list. It doesn't include Crooked Beat. Orpheus Records is good for vinyl if you'll be outside the city at all. And I'd recommend CD Warehouse in Georgetown (but I work there, so I'm biased).

yeah a lot of those places are gone now, bro - no more dccd, among other things - you should check out crooked beat (punk/indie/hip stuff) and ethio sound (african jamz, primarily) in adams morgan, melody in dupont circle (way overpriced but has some decent non-U.S. stock sometimes), cd warehouse and others i'm forgetting right now but will try to remember. oh yeah, as a former cdepot employee in college park, i'd say that it's worth checking out, especially if you're interested in jazz and r&b.

honestly though if you're tryna do some record shopping in the area you're probably better off going to baltimore. dc's got some worthwhile places but it just can't compete.

Current College Park Resident sez..
CDepot is definitely ill, you'd need a car to get there from the city though.
Orpheus is ok, but same deal.
CD Warehouse is pretty awesome.
In Silver Spring (metro stop) there is Road House Oldies, a quality soul shop with a HUGE 45 collection.
There's a place on 14th just off U street I believe called Mad T music shop, they have a decent vinyl collection of mostly rap and soul stuff, some CDs. There's a cell phone store at Georgia and Florida that always pumps go-go, I'd check it out if you're trying to find some of that native DC trash can drumming type jonx. Also the numerous CD/Game Exchanges (local used CD/record chain) have some good stuff from time to time, worth checking out for go-go and local and local DC rap.
Dupont Circle has the DJ Hut- I've never been there but I get weekly emails and it's definitely worth checking out. 2010 P Street, NW.
Som Records on 1843 18th Street (it's below ground level, check carefully) has limited Cds but a really awesome vinyl collection, especially spanish and blues and electronica type stuff. The staff is really helpful.
The aforementioned Crooked Beat is quality.

Your list is pretty out-of-date though. Kemp Mill is out of business, don't even bother. A few of the other ones up there are too, I think. Yoshitoshi I believe is online only now.

If I had to make a reccomendation without knowing you at all, I would say DJ Hut, Som, and Crooked Beat are the ones to check out.

Simba Records on Holton St. in Langley Park, MD has African cds and dvds, and the nearby West Indian Record Mart has reggae and caribbean cds, mixtapes, dvds and vinyl. There are various Latino stores throughout the area.
