s1ocki, Thursday, 15 March 2007 03:22 (seventeen years ago) link

huh.

s1ocki, Thursday, 15 March 2007 03:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Exactly!

jim, Thursday, 15 March 2007 03:28 (seventeen years ago) link

i love it. the string sample/pad is really fun.

Cameron Octigan, Thursday, 15 March 2007 04:10 (seventeen years ago) link

it's horrible.. where's this supposed to fit in besides aerobics. why little kid singing? i thought i'd like it the first 3 times but noooo , it sounds like a very bad daft punk cover vocally and musically its so & the strings are like a bad version of final fantasy + billy joel

7seasjim, Friday, 16 March 2007 05:42 (seventeen years ago) link

why not little kid singing??

s1ocki, Friday, 16 March 2007 05:46 (seventeen years ago) link

Hahaha I would pay you to say things like that about the records discussed on the rolling minimal thread.

blunt, Friday, 16 March 2007 05:49 (seventeen years ago) link

the idea that the string hits in this song sound anything like final fantasy is pretty amazingly insane dude.

s1ocki, Friday, 16 March 2007 05:50 (seventeen years ago) link

dont get me wrong i like justice, but i cant see this as anything but a gimmick song .. you're right, though final fantasy has nothing to do with eyegouging synths

7seasjim, Friday, 16 March 2007 05:58 (seventeen years ago) link

simian's "its the beat" is what this should maybe be more in the vein of, so luckily someone (my vote is on von stroke) will pull a remix out and then erol will give it to pete tong-- if put your hands up for detroit can make #1 and nme will write a story about blog rave.

7seasjim, Friday, 16 March 2007 06:03 (seventeen years ago) link

haven't heard this yet! i'm keen to, i swung around and like 'waters of nazareth' again now.

apparently there's a small chunk of it on b-side of the 'phantom' 12" (the rest is taken up with an etching or something?).

haitch, Friday, 16 March 2007 07:13 (seventeen years ago) link

i had a dream about an ed banger concert on my friend's roof last night.

s1ocki, Friday, 16 March 2007 14:17 (seventeen years ago) link

also in my dream i was a big ogre on a magical journey in the frozen wastes of the north.

s1ocki, Friday, 16 March 2007 15:38 (seventeen years ago) link

not that description doesn't also pretty much apply to my waking life too.

s1ocki, Friday, 16 March 2007 15:38 (seventeen years ago) link

i hope yr friend's roof is reinforced, then.

haitch, Saturday, 17 March 2007 04:27 (seventeen years ago) link

i wasn't talking about that part.

s1ocki, Saturday, 17 March 2007 05:48 (seventeen years ago) link

This is great! Very not.. justice.

Roz, Wednesday, 21 March 2007 12:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah I hope they do more of this stuff and less of the aggro overdriven bass dirge.

NI, Wednesday, 21 March 2007 16:58 (seventeen years ago) link

This song has made me realise that what I don't like about Justice isn't the overdriven bass dirge, it's when the bass and drums jerk and twitch without ever settling into a groove. Which is exactly what happens here. Ugh.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 21 March 2007 19:37 (seventeen years ago) link

dont get me wrong i like justice, but i cant see this as anything but a gimmick song

i think this song is really fun, and if anyone is looking for Justice to be more than a gimmick band ... they're barking up the wrong tree. in a good way, they're disposable pop. i love this song! it's just fun.

and i don't care what anyone says ... fun is still cool

Cameron Octigan, Wednesday, 21 March 2007 21:35 (seventeen years ago) link

^yup^

I like to think this song has its roots in that Celestial Choir song. It's not too far-fetched considering the Optimo fellers have bigged SOTW up in the past and I'm sure they've crossed paths with the Justices a few times (Stirmonster, can you add light to this?).

But yes, I'm on the side of cutesy kids choirs, I shake my fist at the 'grindcore put through the vocoder filter on cool edit' side, booo

NI, Thursday, 22 March 2007 01:32 (seventeen years ago) link

actually, we've never crossed paths with justice, but every time i've played paris, everyone seems to know that celestial choir record.

stirmonster, Saturday, 24 March 2007 16:02 (seventeen years ago) link

i forgot, we're still pretending we don't listen to 'blog house'.

god, it's like electroclash all over again in this place

Spinspin Sugah, Sunday, 25 March 2007 03:35 (seventeen years ago) link

Blog House is quickly replacing Dirty South Rap as the new music du jour to wile out to at the end of your Saturday night.

jergincito, Sunday, 25 March 2007 20:18 (seventeen years ago) link

while i couldn't care less about electroclash, new rave, or any of this other stuff ... the Ed Banger crew (Justice, Sebastian, Busy P, Medhi) played in SF last night and shit was really, really fun! they tore it up for 3 hours or so just spinning about 2 minutes of every song I was in the mood for.

obviously new rave and the Ed Banger thing will eventually fade, but who cares? just trying to have some fun and cut a few rugs.

Cameron Octigan, Sunday, 25 March 2007 20:45 (seventeen years ago) link

You can repeat the word "fun" all night and it doesn't make the shit any less weak.

COME ANTICIPATE THE NEW ALBUM "†" WITH ME!!!

OMG "One Minute to Midnight" (which is better than "Waters of Nazareth"/"D.A.N.C.E."/etc) is going to be on it. I am so fucking pumped; this will rule.

d.a.n.c.e. original pwns the extended remix and the tittsworth remix. and last night i messed with the tempo and it sounds fucking great at about 122.

For my uses, the Tittsworth remix is perfect.

I haven't heard "One Minute to Midnight" yet

Should be easy to find on Slsk, if not I can arrange a Rap1dshare or Why Ess Aye (I ARE SNEAKY). It came out a year or so ago on the Reanimators' Toxic electro comp as a then-exclusive, and it also beats nine kinds of hell out of "Nazareth"- not really danceable, sounds if anything like a heavier, gnarlier Ratatat (this is a good thing, I swear).

Fie on them for calling their album that, though. FIE! At least it'll be at the very very top or very very bottom of my itunes library, cos they've made it impossible for me to skip to it with a couple keystrokes like I do for everyone else who doesn't name their album in fucking Wingdings.

Telephone thing, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 19:27 (seventeen years ago) link

what a world

s1ocki, Friday, 18 May 2007 15:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Someone had posted the last half of that sentence upthread so i googled it and found this article
http://www.trashmenagerie.com/blog/2007/03/18/blog-house/

This term was first coined in February 2007 by Baghdaddy (aka Fistfight) who is a member of the Low Bee message board.

deej, Friday, 18 May 2007 15:14 (seventeen years ago) link

anyway i'm not so into this song, the disco signifying seems empty without any kind of real strong groove underneath it

WIKI removed the term 'blog house' from their pages after it was deemed to even not be a real genre at all. they may have put it back now. i honestly cant be arsed to check.

Yeah, it's gone. Deleted by "Majorly". Too bad, I liked the term and the entry was actually pretty good.

― strongohulkington,

i cannot wait for the new album.
for years i was ambivalent re their thing,
then a few months ago something clicked.
the 2cd set of their revised versions on Woman Worldwide is insanely good.

at the time they seemed like the most annoying parts of daft punk revved up to 100, with the disco element subdued

Cross is an all time album for me. Nothing else I’ve heard from them really came close though.

Early Justice is so so good! Haven't really loved anything since that era from them. I'm hearing the new singles are interesting though. Maybe this new record will bring back the spice of their debut

mark e, Thursday, 25 April 2024 20:11 (three weeks ago) link

I was a diehard adolescent blog-house-ite when Cross came out, so that was and remains a cherished record for me, and I liked both of the subsequent albums, understood the different things they were doing, but felt they had discarded something essential to Cross which I really appreciated, so my attention drifted a bit. With the Hyperdrama rollout though everything I've seen seems to point towards them recapturing that discarded element (without being crassly revivalist or abandoning what they were going for on Woman and Audio Video Disco), which had led me to experience an extremely similar arc to mark e where their whole discography is clicking much better, up-to-and-including the marveling at what they accomplished with Woman Worldwide. It's a nice feeling, getting back on the wavelength like this. Excited for tomorrow!

really looking forward to wearily scrolling past all your posts (Champiness), Thursday, 25 April 2024 22:54 (three weeks ago) link

I learned from my 5 year old son that the Trolls movie contains a song which is a mashup of this song, "Move Your Feet", and "It's a Sunshine Day" (by the Brady Bunch)

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Thursday, 25 April 2024 23:31 (three weeks ago) link

one listen in : the pitchfork review is fair.
most of the album is in the same mode as Woman, which i loved, so after a few more listens i will totally fall for this.
but, basically the album could do with more of their earlier grit,
guess those days are over.

mark e, Friday, 26 April 2024 18:34 (three weeks ago) link

as expected, afer a few listens, this is now beginning to work its magic ..
loving the fairlight cmi/ztt orchestral stabs during 'saturrne', makes me chuckle/grin each time they hit ..

mark e, Sunday, 28 April 2024 17:44 (two weeks ago) link

I've only heard it twice atm. There's a few Justice-by-numbers tracks that don't do much for me, and I'm a bit allergic to the continuing existence of Tame Impala, but the proggier moments (esp. the kinda formless Muscle Memory, the revival of Peter Gabriel's Start as Moonlight Rendez-Vous) are real nice, and really the second half of the album trumps side one I'd say. The constant drop outs on Explorer made that one for me too, ditto the Horn orchestral stabs on Saturine.

you can see me from westbury white horse, Sunday, 28 April 2024 17:49 (two weeks ago) link

it took quite a few listens before i fell for 'Woman', and i suspect the same will happen re the new album.
i don't even 'recognise' the guests as they are just part of the overall sound,
so no idea how much TI have added to the track, and i don't really care ..
