the album title is cuz todd trainer has a greyhound. i've seen him walking it around mpls before.

i'm assuming said dog is also the cover model.

M@tt He1ges0n, Thursday, 15 March 2007 14:46 (eighteen years ago)

TS: Bertine Zetlitz's Italian Greyhound vs. Shellac's Italian Greyhound. Just because you claim it's excellent, doesn't mean it is!

The annoying kid from Nip/Tuck would make a good Todd Trainer.

Andy K, Thursday, 15 March 2007 21:52 (eighteen years ago)

nice news!

funny farm, Thursday, 15 March 2007 22:20 (eighteen years ago)

two months pass...

It's out in a couple of weeks. Has anybody heard it yet? Is it any good? Is that last question redundant? Will I save money buying the vinyl instead of the CD because it comes with a free CD anyway (like what that asshole Albini did with 1,000 Hurts)?

MacDara, Friday, 18 May 2007 19:35 (eighteen years ago)

that may have been an "asshole" thing to do but you gotta admit it's pretty funny

latebloomer, Friday, 18 May 2007 19:48 (eighteen years ago)

In hindsight? Yes. But I'm not falling for that ol' joker's tricks again!

MacDara, Friday, 18 May 2007 19:52 (eighteen years ago)

And of course, I used the term 'asshole' in the Chunklet Magazine sense. So it's almost a compliment.

MacDara, Friday, 18 May 2007 19:53 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe this time the vinyl will include only the CD.
Can't wait to hear it either way.

Jack Burton, Friday, 18 May 2007 20:30 (eighteen years ago)

no promos going out. otherwise i might have actually asked(begged) for one.

scott seward, Friday, 18 May 2007 20:33 (eighteen years ago)

ah, no wonder it hasn't leaked yet

latebloomer, Friday, 18 May 2007 20:35 (eighteen years ago)

it did, early today.

Herman G. Neuname, Monday, 28 May 2007 22:08 (eighteen years ago)

<3 the way the drums sound

StanM, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 08:35 (eighteen years ago)

i will be skipping "genuine lulabelle" though. liking the rest quite a bit though.

yeah i heard the vinyl (which i guess the packaging is going to be really awesome too)...is going to include a CD like last time.

M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 17:56 (eighteen years ago)

i've seen this leaked around but i think i'm going to wait at this point...hell it's been like 6 years and i'm going to buy it anyway, might as well hear it on vinyl first.

M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 17:57 (eighteen years ago)

I hope there's a cd included like last time, because I've got the vinyl pre-ordered with Amazon, and I don't even own a turntable at the moment and haven't for about 5 years. If my house ever caught fire, the third thing I'd rescue after the wife and the cats would be my Shellac vinyl.

nate woolls, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 08:42 (eighteen years ago)

Great, because I don't have a turntable right now, but I want to expand my vinyl collection, which currently consists of precisely three records -- the Minutemen's 'The Punch Line', the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles soundtrack album from 1990, and a 7" of Def Leppard's 'Animal' from 1987.

MacDara, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 08:45 (eighteen years ago)

this records sounds exactly like one would expect it to sound , and thats not a good sign.no surprises, kinda boring

Zeno, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 20:30 (eighteen years ago)

haha that's kind of perfect in a way actually

M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 20:35 (eighteen years ago)

this is pretty underwhelming.

:/

circa1916, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 20:59 (eighteen years ago)

Great news! I love At Action Park.

professor ganson, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 22:15 (eighteen years ago)

I hope it's math-y and noise-y.

professor ganson, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 22:17 (eighteen years ago)

New song = very dull. Albini peaked with Atomizer.

unperson, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 23:06 (eighteen years ago)

It's a bit fucking shit isn't it. Sounds overly improv-ed in places as well. I'm being charitable.

Mister Craig, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 23:07 (eighteen years ago)

After the first run through, only 'End Of Radio' (which they've been playing live for a couple of years anyway) and 'Elephant' stand out. Hmm.

aldo, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 09:52 (eighteen years ago)

I've got a lot out of this so far and I predict I'm gonna get a lot more out of it. Also the artwork!! SO MANY DOGS.

DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 10:01 (eighteen years ago)

It's all about side 2 and the Jay Ryan art (who incindently lives in my town that I have found out thanks to this rekkid) ...

BlackIronPrison, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 15:14 (eighteen years ago)

am liking it so far. the vinyl packaging is just gorgeous! on the third song (be prepared) which i loved when i saw them play it live and still do.

M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 19:23 (eighteen years ago)

I feel like I should listen to this so I can form an opinion about it but I can't even get through the first song.

Edward III, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 19:26 (eighteen years ago)

OKAY NO ONE MENTIONED THAT THAT ONE LONG SONG GENUINE LULLABELE FEATURES THE MOVIE TRAILER GUY ON SPOKEN WORD! WTF WEIRDORAMA!

M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 19:39 (eighteen years ago)

this one instrumental sounds like shellac being bedhead!

M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 19:40 (eighteen years ago)

Ken Nordine i guess is the movie trailer guy's name...you know his voice for sure.

M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 19:42 (eighteen years ago)

and the singer of Uzeda and a character from Trogdor (or so a friend informed me)

M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 19:42 (eighteen years ago)

ken nordine is a chicago guy.

hstencil, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 19:57 (eighteen years ago)

ah okay yeah that threw me for a loop!

M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 20:17 (eighteen years ago)

Is he the guy that goes "the genuine article!" in a sort of deep voice?

DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 20:39 (eighteen years ago)

yeah you know the dude that used to do all those movie trailers!

M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 20:40 (eighteen years ago)

But is he the 'geniune article', or just a good imposter? ;o)

(Sorry, couldn't resist! As an aside, I had to skip that song when I was listening on the bus to work last week. Something about hearing Albini sing about girls covered in come while little old ladies were sitting around me that was a bit unsettling, to say the least.)

MacDara, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 21:10 (eighteen years ago)

I'd recognise his voice w/out a moment's thought if it was something longer, but it's spoken quite quickly... apparently it (that whole bizarro midsection bit)'s cut up with a sample from some cartoon I've not heard of too

DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 21:13 (eighteen years ago)

Oh wait is that the Trogdor thing you mentioned?

DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 21:15 (eighteen years ago)

No it's something called Strong Bad, if my sources ie the internet are correct

DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 21:19 (eighteen years ago)

I am now appreciating 'Kittypants' and 'Paco' more.

aldo, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 21:32 (eighteen years ago)

Did the vinyl come with a CD copy?

nate woolls, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 21:47 (eighteen years ago)

yep...it's unprinted and w/no cd case, but it's free and included w/the vinyl, which is honestly so beautiful packagingwise...

M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 21:52 (eighteen years ago)

just like 1000 hurts then. Great, I don't have to download it now.

nate woolls, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 21:59 (eighteen years ago)

Is this the thread for last year's Bertine Zetlitz album? I did not know that Albini produced. Good move for him. I bet he had to swallow his pride though.

byebyepride, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 02:06 (eighteen years ago)

Strong, not Stong :/

onimo, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 10:18 (eighteen years ago)

Listening now. It's a Shellac album. I don't know how one could be disappointed or any more pleased than they were for the last new Shellac album.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 7 June 2007 17:20 (eighteen years ago)

it's a lot like 1000 Hurts.

i mean, at this point i don't expect them to top At Action Park or Terraform.

but I like it...the Lullabelle song really gets on my nerves, but Steady as She Goes is probably the most raging tune since Action Park, i really love the instrumentals.

i dunno, there's something so distinctive about their playing and riffing that I just love. even if the songs - admittedly - aren't as good as they were on the first two...

there's something so Shellacky about their music that I love. I can't quite put it in words.

M@tt He1ges0n, Thursday, 7 June 2007 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

my take based on 4-5 listens:

on par at least with terraform, maybe a little below (but at least it's better than 1000 hurts). i wish the instrumentals weren't instrumentals; c'mon, dudes. seven years and there was nothing t\ya coulda screamed there? at least 6-7 tracks are awesome. top....35 of 2007, for sure.

Beatrix Kiddo, Thursday, 7 June 2007 19:20 (eighteen years ago)

picked it up yesterday - and i think it's a great album, as expected - not as good as Terraform, but what else is?

stephen, Thursday, 7 June 2007 20:33 (eighteen years ago)

does anyone have an opinion about this version of "End Of Radio" versus the emotion-drenched BBC recording that's been around for a while? Because if it is anywhere near as good, I need this.

sleeve, Friday, 8 June 2007 23:28 (eighteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

Does the vinyl of At Action Park come with a CD? I know the original didn't but I saw a pretty thick looking version of it in the store today and I didn't know if it had been reissued at any point.

Reatards Unite, Sunday, 1 July 2007 03:00 (eighteen years ago)

it comes with a jagged piece of sheet metal labled "cd version"

latebloomer, Sunday, 1 July 2007 03:21 (eighteen years ago)

http://www.prefixmag.com/news/shellacs-todd-trainer-on-animal-planet-show-dogs-1/35801/

the shellac stuff starts at 3:00. "if you haven't heard of them, they're huge in the world of math rock, a hardcore brand of the indie rock scene."
