Shellac - Excellent Italian Greyhound

It's out in a couple of weeks. Has anybody heard it yet? Is it any good? Is that last question redundant? Will I save money buying the vinyl instead of the CD because it comes with a free CD anyway (like what that asshole Albini did with 1,000 Hurts)?

And of course, I used the term 'asshole' in the Chunklet Magazine sense. So it's almost a compliment.

Maybe this time the vinyl will include only the CD.

yeah i heard the vinyl (which i guess the packaging is going to be really awesome too)...is going to include a CD like last time.

i've seen this leaked around but i think i'm going to wait at this point...hell it's been like 6 years and i'm going to buy it anyway, might as well hear it on vinyl first.

I hope there's a cd included like last time, because I've got the vinyl pre-ordered with Amazon, and I don't even own a turntable at the moment and haven't for about 5 years. If my house ever caught fire, the third thing I'd rescue after the wife and the cats would be my Shellac vinyl.

Great, because I don't have a turntable right now, but I want to expand my vinyl collection, which currently consists of precisely three records -- the Minutemen's 'The Punch Line', the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles soundtrack album from 1990, and a 7" of Def Leppard's 'Animal' from 1987.

this records sounds exactly like one would expect it to sound , and thats not a good sign.no surprises, kinda boring

Great news! I love At Action Park.

I hope it's math-y and noise-y.

New song = very dull. Albini peaked with Atomizer.

It's a bit fucking shit isn't it. Sounds overly improv-ed in places as well. I'm being charitable.

After the first run through, only 'End Of Radio' (which they've been playing live for a couple of years anyway) and 'Elephant' stand out. Hmm.

I've got a lot out of this so far and I predict I'm gonna get a lot more out of it. Also the artwork!! SO MANY DOGS.

It's all about side 2 and the Jay Ryan art (who incindently lives in my town that I have found out thanks to this rekkid) ...

am liking it so far. the vinyl packaging is just gorgeous! on the third song (be prepared) which i loved when i saw them play it live and still do.

I feel like I should listen to this so I can form an opinion about it but I can't even get through the first song.

(Sorry, couldn't resist! As an aside, I had to skip that song when I was listening on the bus to work last week. Something about hearing Albini sing about girls covered in come while little old ladies were sitting around me that was a bit unsettling, to say the least.)

I'd recognise his voice w/out a moment's thought if it was something longer, but it's spoken quite quickly... apparently it (that whole bizarro midsection bit)'s cut up with a sample from some cartoon I've not heard of too

yep...it's unprinted and w/no cd case, but it's free and included w/the vinyl, which is honestly so beautiful packagingwise...

just like 1000 hurts then. Great, I don't have to download it now.

Is this the thread for last year's Bertine Zetlitz album? I did not know that Albini produced. Good move for him. I bet he had to swallow his pride though.

Listening now. It's a Shellac album. I don't know how one could be disappointed or any more pleased than they were for the last new Shellac album.

it's a lot like 1000 Hurts.

i mean, at this point i don't expect them to top At Action Park or Terraform.

but I like it...the Lullabelle song really gets on my nerves, but Steady as She Goes is probably the most raging tune since Action Park, i really love the instrumentals.

i dunno, there's something so distinctive about their playing and riffing that I just love. even if the songs - admittedly - aren't as good as they were on the first two...

there's something so Shellacky about their music that I love. I can't quite put it in words.

my take based on 4-5 listens:

on par at least with terraform, maybe a little below (but at least it's better than 1000 hurts). i wish the instrumentals weren't instrumentals; c'mon, dudes. seven years and there was nothing t\ya coulda screamed there? at least 6-7 tracks are awesome. top....35 of 2007, for sure.

picked it up yesterday - and i think it's a great album, as expected - not as good as Terraform, but what else is?

does anyone have an opinion about this version of "End Of Radio" versus the emotion-drenched BBC recording that's been around for a while? Because if it is anywhere near as good, I need this.

Does the vinyl of At Action Park come with a CD? I know the original didn't but I saw a pretty thick looking version of it in the store today and I didn't know if it had been reissued at any point.
