Anyone seen him anytime in the last couple years? Worth going to? My wife wants to go see one of the shows on the tour coming up, but I'm kind of on the fence. Help me out.

When Avey Tare's voice blew out and he had a big whinge at the AC show at the Zoo in Brisbane a couple of months ago, Panda Bear got up and did this zoned out, droney solo stuff which I dug. But that was only for about 15 minutes.

the videos i've seen look boring. ie: laptop loops, with a mic

great songs, boring show

tornup_andhurt, Monday, 19 March 2007 03:26 (eighteen years ago)

on te AC fanboard it was posted that he would play in the US with a "full band" but I am not sure if this was official or confirmed.
Can't you just do something your wife wants to do without checking the internet first?

a full band would do him a world of wonder, but his songs are still entirely loop based so I can't imagine them being too exciting.

two years pass...

http://pitchfork.com/news/37613-hear-panda-bear-perform-new-songs/

the sound is pretty bad but one can figure out easily that at least the 2nd new track performed on that video clip is awesome, esp. with that electric guitar.

ah, I got my tickets for his Paris show !
(not expecting an amazing gig to be honest since I find AC a bit boring live).

AlXTC from Paris, Tuesday, 19 January 2010 16:15 (fifteen years ago)

the berlin show was almost entirely new songs.

Zeno, Tuesday, 19 January 2010 16:16 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, I've just downloaded one of his latest shows on p4k.
haven't listened to it yet but there's only "daily routine" that's known.

good god the show in DC last night was beyond words. chamber music. it felt like going to church. friend of mine said he felt baptized afterwards. so did I. really overwhelming show. played all new stuff in the main set, encored with Last Night at the Jetty, Scheherazade, and Surfers' Hymn. apparently he's got two albums worth of material (!). omfg i can't stop singing the hook to this one song that i'll upload a video of soon… jesus christ he was brilliant. album either comes out in july or september.

three years pass...

new stuff premiered at Desert Daze over the weekend. Really going for that deep house vibe. Sounds great. Apparently he played 6 new songs + You Can Count On Me, Crosswords, Tropic of Cancer, and Acid Wash. Album is already recorded & should come out early next year. I think he's supposed to tour in January/February, too. Some video:

fpsa, Thursday, 17 April 2025 01:17 (six months ago)

I don’t know that the Tiny Desk is a good fit for Mr. Panda Bear.

Cow_Art, Thursday, 17 April 2025 02:59 (six months ago)

sounds pretty good to me!

budo jeru, Thursday, 17 April 2025 21:07 (six months ago)
