Thee More Shallows are the best SF band going...

...now that Deerhoof has kinda dropped the ball. I saw them first several years ago and they wiped the stage with Xiu Xiu, the headliner, at BotH, and they've been equally as fantastic everywhere I've caught 'em since then. New album due late Apr, and the one track I've heard is already classic. You don't need 50 million cymbals when you've got actual songs, see.

they're great and dee is a really nice guy. they're not anything like deerhoof so that's not a very good comparison to make. I'm surprised they signed to anticon but I think they're a cool band for that label to put out since they're absolutely unlike anything else on there.

deerhoof dropped the ball?

I bought the second album on the recommendation of a friend, but apparently I fucked up and was supposed to get the first one instead. But I liked it just fine, and the new album sounds good (plus I am a total anticon stan).

Fishing is good, but Cuts is miles better, so I'd reverse that recommendation.

I don't mean to talk shit about Deerhoof, but Friend Opportunity is kind of a chore to listen to. There's no real direct comparison between TMS and Deerhoof other than the fact that Deerhoof were my fave SF band until this year. What jazz guy clamed that there are only two types of music, "good" and "bad"? That's what I think.

i'm really enjoying The Mall.

They are quite easily the hottest SF indie rock band since last month's scintillating Pitchfork darlings dropped the ball.

God I love these guys. BoBB is more rock than the previous stuff, but there's also a J&MC-like layer of noise on a lotta the songs. Definitely classic. I'm still deciding how it measures up to the previous releases, though.

More Deep Cuts is terrific. I find the latest a bit disappointing after More Deep Cuts, but still worthwhile.

they should have released their breakthrough album by now, but the last one wasnt so good.
maybe the next will get bigger attention.(and then most of the old fans will hate them)

Zeno, Monday, 26 January 2009 23:56 (seventeen years ago)

I'm sorry to have to correct you, but BoBB is very, very excellent. I'm quite happy with how things are going, except they could use to release more albums.
