*****ILX BEST OF 2006 TRACKS/ALBUMS NOMINATIONS THREAD*****

Message Bookmarked
Bookmark Removed
The year is getting on a bit, so let's do this.

You have 20 nominations that can be split between tracks and albums in any way you choose. Make sure to identify which nominations are albums and which ones are tracks. If the track was released as a single, it had to have been released in 2006, regardless of when the album came out.

There's only two weeks for nominations this time, so make sure to get them in!

DEADLINE: noms accepted until midnight on the West Coast, 3 APRIL 2007 11:59pm US/Pacific

I don't think an ILM list would be different enough from Jackin' Pop's list to make this really worth bothering with now, sorries.

blueski, Monday, 19 March 2007 14:46 (eighteen years ago)

Also, it's the middle of MARCH.

Michael F Gill, Monday, 19 March 2007 14:49 (eighteen years ago)

Also, it's the middle of MARCH.

That could actually be a plus though, as people will have had time to hear even more things they didn't get to hear last year, and yet everything is still relatively fresh. I think my own lack of interest is pretty much the same as blueski's: the results aren't likely to be that different from what we've already seen. (The only other person here I'm pretty sure would vote for my favorite album from last year probably wouldn't vote.)

Rockist Scientist, Monday, 19 March 2007 15:13 (eighteen years ago)

(Personally I can't think of anything from '06 that I've heard in '07 that I would vote for though.)

Rockist Scientist, Monday, 19 March 2007 15:14 (eighteen years ago)

Be sure to check if things have been nominated already...The Drift and The Warning have been nominated three times already, for example.

I know it's March, and I would have done this earlier in the year had nu-ILX had been up. Certainly there will be overlap with other polls, but I've noticed that unlike the bigger year-end polls, ILX's poll results feature acts that haven't broken the US. Thanks to the 2005 poll I downloaded "Biology" by Girls Aloud and "Push the Button" by the Sugababes, and I'm forever indebted.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 20 March 2007 08:26 (eighteen years ago)

This thread seems like a fine idea, especially for those of us who take a long time figuring out how we really feel about things (esp if we don't get records for free). My year-end list was dominated by critically-lauded stuff I listened to in November/December, much of which I was briefly infatuated with but quickly left behind. As 2007 grinds along, it's getting easier to see what I'll actually hold onto from 2006:

Om - Conference of the Birds
SunnO)))/Boris - Altar
Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain
Nachtmystium - Instinct:Decay
The Knife - Silent Shout
Indian Jewelry - Invasive Exotics
Sir Richard Bishop - Fingering the Devil
Raccoo-oo-oon - Mythos Folkways Vol. 1
Fucked Up - Hidden World (have come 180 degrees on this)

Reissues are tricky...I suppose the rule of thumb is that if the reissue sales/buzz was greater than the original, it can be nominated.

Another tricky thing is release dates in different countries; I'd say that as long as it had a major release somewhere in 2006, it can be nominated.

Do you think any of 'em are actually worth nominating, or are you just throwing light on the ugly ducklings?

Pye Poudre, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 21:48 (eighteen years ago)

as the deadline is approaching it's just a quick summary of what hasn't been nominated yet.

why not stick them all in as wildcards ! the take up of the nominations process has been rather disappointing.

djmartian, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 21:52 (eighteen years ago)

the deadline is 11.59pm 59 seconds in the last timezone i.e PST [Pacific Standard Time] i.e in about 9 hours time.

djmartian, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 21:55 (eighteen years ago)

Isn't the Discodrome remix of Zdarlight supposed to be on here somewhere?

Searching for it on the page yields nothing, unless you meant "this song should be nominated".

As for A Crimson Grail, I did a search on it and all dates point to a January 2007 release so I'll remove it unless someone points out otherwise.

musically, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 22:14 (eighteen years ago)

I think Zdarlight should be nominated, 'cuz although it came out in '05, I didn't hear it until sometime this past summer. And it's grate. So, I'm nominating the remix. Which is cheezy, but WTF.

The Discodrome mix came out in 2006 so it's definitely elgible. I liked the original so I should check the remix out.

musically, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 22:29 (eighteen years ago)

suggestion,

musically, maybe you could put a quick reminder thread message on ILM and ILE to alert people that the deadline for this 2006 nominations process is fast approaching. This may jolt a few more people into action.

[i.e message and least 1 answer to show up on New Answers]

presumably, the deadline is 11.59pm 59 seconds in the last timezone i.e PST [Pacific Standard Time]

Did you unskip the skipped messages? Don't forget to unskip the skipped messages. (Why do some threads have warnings about that, while others don't? Or does that depend on being logged in?)

Rockist Scientist, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 23:04 (eighteen years ago)

Actually, wait maybe they all day, it's just really easy to ignore somehow.

Rockist Scientist, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 23:05 (eighteen years ago)

There they are. I guess I just don't look hard enough. Anyway, hopefully that will do it for me.

Jeff Treppel, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 23:08 (eighteen years ago)

I requested that the thread be renamed slightly and that the deadline be a bit more specific...I picked a day rather than a time just to be flexible and also because time zones totally throw me off. Basically I'll accept nominations while it's still April 3 somewhere.

musically, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 23:23 (eighteen years ago)

Apollo Nove - Res Inexplicata Volans
Also I mispelled the Marisa Monte album above but doubt anyone cares.
Nobody nominated the Cibelle album (I'm not going to).

These Robust Cookies, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 01:20 (eighteen years ago)

(Judging by the sheer lack of other metal nominations beyond my own, I'm somewhat doubtful about any of those records placing very highly in the poll. Oh well. I can still enjoy them.)

Jeff Treppel, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 01:24 (eighteen years ago)

And hey, can I scratch the Herod record and nominate the Scar Symmetry one? Forgot that that came out, and that was a better album. That's the last of the meddling, I promise.

(Tracks: Ahmad Fathi - "La Tisafir"

Thinking about this:
Klaxons - "Atlantis to Interzone (Hadouken! remix)"

The remix hasn't actually been released (only appeared on Hadouken's myspace page and it wasn't downloadable). So, just change that to:
