I read Atrocity Exhibition because Ian Curtis told me to. Although I think I'd already read L'Etranger before hearing The Cure's Killing An Arab. I bothered to find out who John Webster was because of an Echo & The Bunnymen song. Bowie's Nietzche references in Quicksand had me reading and yet not understanding Nietzche. (all this when I was 15 or so, mind you)

I read House of Dolls because Joy Division coined their name from it (and part of 'No Love Lost" lyrics are directly lifted from it)

Read Peter Reich's wonderful 'Book of Dreams' because Kate Bush's Cloudbusting is based on it.

Vaguely skimmed through the 'Tibetan Book of the Dead' because of The Beatles and 'Tomorrow Never Knows'.

I read Mumia's "Live from Death Row" after Rage shouted him out a half dozen times on Battle of Los Angeles. Read "Beyond Good and Evil" in high school because of the Pop Group tune. Watched "Star Wars" again because John Brown recorded "Car Wars."

Another one I forgot: I picked up a book of Delmore Schwartz stories second hand because Lou Reed dedicated European Son to him.

Not sure I ever read it though...
