almost every XTC album

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:40 (nineteen years ago)

(although most of those are phrases from OTHER albums, surprisingly - Oranges and Lemons, Apple Venus, etc.)

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:40 (nineteen years ago)

What XTC albums?

Go 2?
White Music?
Black Sea?
Drums and Wires?
English Settlement?
Mummer?
Oranges and Lemons?
Skylarking?

REVEAL - rem. a truncation of 'the big reveal' which is the full phrsae and the original working title.

pisces, Thursday, 22 March 2007 19:17 (nineteen years ago)

Oranges and Lemons is named for a line in Ballad for a Rainy Day off of Skylarking, Apple Venus is from a line from Then She Appeared off of Nonsuch, etc. There are others but I can't remember them off the top of my head. Partridge has noted this tendency in interviews.

The Wrens: Meadowlands (Everyone choose sides)
Elvis Costello: Blood and Chocoate (Uncomplicated)
Elvis Costello: King of America (Brilliant Mistake)
Graham Parker: Squeezing Out Sparks (You Can't Be Too Strong, although technically he says "squeezing out a spark'"
Neil Young: Rust Never Sleeps (Hey Hey My My)
Talking Heads: Stop Making Sense (Girlfriend Is Better)

One more:

Steely Dan: Katy Lied (Dr. Wu)

kornrulez6969, Thursday, 22 March 2007 19:27 (nineteen years ago)

Steely Dan - Katy Lied
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation (and Sister and A Thousand Leaves)
Sloan - Never Hear The End Of It

also a huge number of hip hop albums, although those are usually a case of the rapper making explicit reference to the album title in a song, which is kind of something else entirely.
