FLOORS AND WALLS : Welcome To Chav-core !!
***********************************************************

'The Stand' Single released on May 21 & 'What Can We Do Today' Album on June 4 '07 !!

What happens when the world of hoodie-sporting chavdom crashes headfirst into big groove, visceral rock music like a joy ridden Honda Civic? Floors And Walls mate. That's what.

Looking as likely to mug you as play you a tune, this Brighton based quartet are forging a path into unique and idiosyncratic waters. Some have seen fit to dub it Chav-Core - but you need to hear this band to decide for yourself!

They release their second single, 'The Stand', on the 21st of May 2007 on South Coast Sounds. Available as CD and download, it will include a live version of 'Grimey' and a cover of the classic Beastie Boy's track 'Sabotage' (+ the Stand
ringtone)! It will be followed on June 4 by the 'What Can We Do Today' album.

The band 's limited edition debut single 'Head Access', released in February, created a massive buzz locally and the band have built up a loyal following, selling out Brighton's Concorde 2 to over 700 fans!

Front man, MC and all-round lad Alex Adams comes from a drum n bass background, while the rest of the band were raised on the likes of The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mars Volta, Muse and System Of A Down. The result has been described as "The Streets meets Rage Against The Machine". Or as one wag put it 'the resulting offspring of a sexual liaison between the Chili Peppers and Vikki Pollard!'.

There is a tangible excitement in the audience at Floors and Walls gigs, "I think the best music happens when you combine polar opposites", explains guitarist Dom McNulty,  "We sound a bit like Arctic Monkey's on speed!"

Because of the band's unique fusion of sounds (a melting pot of rock, MCing and soulful hardhitting lyrics), Floors and Walls have the opportunity to cross over between the usually separate audiences for drum n bass and rock music. "I think everybody can take something from it because it's so diverse," says Ian. "We all bring our own influences to it and see what happens."

The band head out on the road in support of the up-coming releases. Catch them at one of the following shows:

March 22nd Old Ship, Brighton (Brighton Festival Launch)
March 24th Sugarlounge, Margate
April  17th Bristol Fleece & Firkin
April  18th Tunbridge Wells Forum
May 3rd Dublin Castle, London
May 9th Rock City, Nottingham
May 11th Sugarlounge, Margate

unfished business, Thursday, 22 March 2007 19:55 (eighteen years ago)

can we break off diplomatic relations w/the UK over this?

M@tt He1ges0n, Thursday, 22 March 2007 23:37 (eighteen years ago)

Well RHCP are one of the influences so we could do a hands-over-the-water thing and throttle one another.

"We sound a bit like Band X on Drug Y."

The one-sheet is the greatest vessel for unintentional humour we have available to us.

jim, Thursday, 22 March 2007 23:57 (eighteen years ago)

so it's New Rave meets Britpop? way to hedge your bets lol

fandango, Friday, 23 March 2007 00:05 (eighteen years ago)

Way to hedge your bets on making my shitlist.

A somewhat similar thing to this: the debut single by the Twang. It's laddy Oasis/ Stone Roses aping bullshit about taking swedgers (it's called "Wide awake" and its image on myspace is a bunch of pills).

NME being confused by the working class shockah.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 23 March 2007 01:25 (eighteen years ago)

this isn't an NME press release is it?

fandango, Friday, 23 March 2007 01:29 (eighteen years ago)

I'm quite happy to swap NME for ILM, dan.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 23 March 2007 01:30 (eighteen years ago)

are they going to have a face off with Enter Shikari? mods vs rockers '08!!

fandango, Friday, 23 March 2007 01:32 (eighteen years ago)

Floors and Walls have the opportunity to cross over between the usually separate audiences for drum n bass and rock music

owlbrow twitches...

fandango, Friday, 23 March 2007 01:38 (eighteen years ago)

are they going to have a face off with Enter Shikari?

The Enter Shikari album is a complete treat. I doubt these guys will even provide half the rofflés.

jim, Friday, 23 March 2007 01:40 (eighteen years ago)

The fact that the much mooted trance influence amounts to using the trance preset on a micro-korg is a tad disappointing though, I could have done with them entering Dj Sammy territory at some stage.

jim, Friday, 23 March 2007 01:43 (eighteen years ago)

NME being confused by the working class shockah.

This is just a press release but I'm sure there's every chance your prophecy will come to pass.

I think my favourite bit is the use of "mate" in the opening paragraph.

(I've not heard this band by the way)

DJ Mencap, Friday, 23 March 2007 10:09 (eighteen years ago)

ok i listened to this on their myspace.

fucking a, this is the worst shit i've ever heard!

fucking christ.

M@tt He1ges0n, Friday, 23 March 2007 21:01 (eighteen years ago)

you say it with such revelation!

unfished business, Friday, 23 March 2007 21:04 (eighteen years ago)

i mean i thought it would suck. but this is mind boggling.

M@tt He1ges0n, Friday, 23 March 2007 21:11 (eighteen years ago)

let me have a listen

unfished business, Friday, 23 March 2007 21:11 (eighteen years ago)

OMG HAHAHA "Alternative / Drum & Bass / Trip Hop"

mother of god

unfished business, Friday, 23 March 2007 21:14 (eighteen years ago)

Perhaps the polar opposite of The Streets pulling rap into his own vocabulary, this sounds like a British band imitating rock. Other than that, all I gotta say is I feel like I'm 87 years old ("and a cover of the classic Beastie Boy's track 'Sabotage'"). Crikey!

MC, Friday, 23 March 2007 21:53 (eighteen years ago)

On the cover of NME now

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 23:31 (eighteen years ago)

"and a cover of the classic Beastie Boy's track 'Sabotage'"

OK I got their single in the post this morning and had to listen to this track on it three times to confirm that I'm not losing my mind and they really sing "I'm gonna set it straight, this MARGATE".

I wasn't too sure that anyone was gonna overtake Shiny Toy Guns for worst album of 2007, but I'm pretty siked for these guys' effort now.

"Kids With Cannons, aren't children or goats. KWC are a self-titled 'chavcore'/upbeat punk/post hard-core band from South London leading a revolution, a Reebok Revolution. Chavs are now using guitars as instruments, not weapons.

Fusing blistering vocals and cutting music, Floors and Walls seek the boundaries of the current hyper active scene. They defy all conceptions set before them with a new sound you have to hear. A melting pot of hard rock, knockout rhythms, melodic guitars and soulful yet hard-hitting lyrics, Floors and Walls are at the cutting edge of a new sound rising from the streets of Brighton.
"A phenomenon waiting to happen! Chav-core has arrived and its bloody brilliant! Rage Against the Machine meets The Streets!! I shouldnt need to say any more, check them out! The track Head Access is a cracker!! Im loving this!" - Damien Keyes - JuiceFM

"The best thing I've heard in years!" - Yap - Vocals for PinkPunk / One Minute Silence

"These guys have tapped into something seriously interesting!" - Kieron Pepper - Drummer for Prodigy

At War With False Nose (DJ Mencap), Monday, 13 July 2009 21:49 (sixteen years ago)

Can anyone link to a news article where a chav physically attacked someone with a guitar?

ambience chaser (S-), Tuesday, 14 July 2009 07:56 (sixteen years ago)

The band hit Randy's stage around 11 p.m. Johnny Rotten wore a T-shirt depicting two cowboys having sex. Sid Vicious, experiencing withdrawal pangs from his heroin addiction, scrawled "Gimmie a Fix" on his bare chest. Rotten taunted the crowd, calling them all "fucking cowboy faggots." Aluminum cans and Lone Star Longnecks instantly rained the stage and continued throughout the entire set. One irate fan attempted to climb the stage and assault Vicious. Sid cracked his bass guitar over the fan's head.
