Do you think that younger artists who are exceptionally gifted are being venerated in todays world?

or are they falling through the cracks...your thoughts please.......

Twocsinak is execeptionally gifted and I think gets pretty much totally ignored. He's a British guy who sings and writes songs and edits audio in a very intensive manner. He made a cd on the label Wrong Music that should be getting everybody in a lather but I don't think anybody has noticed. Check him out!

(artist name is twocsinak, which is "two Cs in a K" apparently)

Drew Daniel, Friday, 23 March 2007 15:46 (eighteen years ago)

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. As with everything in life.

Pye Poudre, Friday, 23 March 2007 16:28 (eighteen years ago)

o.k, i will check him out..thankyou.

I know many world musicians, flamenco guitarist...celtic artists, asian classical musicians...
people from Austrialia, France, America who play world music...etc....all over the world..
who are great....

In fact world musicians have always been the most friendly of all the people I have met, worked with or met on the net...

They are not the people with the very big egos..not as much in that genre....

I have met the sweetest and most humble of people in the world music genre.

The people associated with world music seem to be so grateful, opened and beautiful people...
in comparison to some other genres...

I have worked with classical musicians..and have worked professionally with some classical musicians...(meaning getting paid) and they weren't as nice for the most part.
Yet I enjoyed the music.

I have worked with rock musicians....
not as nice...more cut throat for the most part.

World musicians are a little more laid back, open-minded and not into the male and female diva mentality..

I like them.
So it has inspired to become more world influenced and less mainstream, since I like to be associated with sweet and gentle people.

One of my best boyfriends was a Reggae bassist.
He was the sweetest man. We broke up...
years ago..he was so sweet....
most of them are.

marissa, Friday, 23 March 2007 16:30 (eighteen years ago)

BTW, in todays world, 2007., who do think is an exceptionally gifted artist on the highest professional level that is being venerated?
Just curious. I am not looking for a heated argument. Just want an honest answer. I would like to know what your idea is of an exceptionally gifted musician, on the highest level.

marissa, Friday, 23 March 2007 16:32 (eighteen years ago)

I think some of the most gifted and talented people are in the World Music genre, and they are also the nicest people I have met, off the net and on......
and the nicest people I have dated or had professional relationships with....

They are not into elitism and not haughty, pretentious and they are the ones that I am most drawn to.

I have not had many good relationships...but had a good boyfriend who was a world musician..and

it seems that I get along very well with world musicians....

I have been mixing more of my contempory music with world music...and still going for a strong and memorable thing..

marissa, Friday, 23 March 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

I think most of them are spending hours posting paranoid rants on message boards when they could be out helping their own careers.

Hurting 2, Friday, 23 March 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

ahahahhahah, you are too funny. lol

marissa, Friday, 23 March 2007 16:41 (eighteen years ago)

There is no paranoias. There is only hankering for reggae bass players, if you know what I mean...

Pye Poudre, Friday, 23 March 2007 16:42 (eighteen years ago)

who do think is an exceptionally gifted artist on the highest professional level that is being venerated?

I dunno, Yo-Yo Ma?

Hurting 2, Friday, 23 March 2007 16:44 (eighteen years ago)

But I'm sure you can argue that he's just some overrated boring jell-o player who sold out.

Hurting 2, Friday, 23 March 2007 16:45 (eighteen years ago)

I was gonna say Joanna Newsom but I think you've just settled the argument, Hurting.

The most gifted young musician working today is Mick Barr (for those who don't know, he's a guitarist who records under the names Orthrelm, Octis and Ocrilim, and is a sometime member of the Flying Luttenbachers), and I think he's getting a reasonable degree of veneration, but he could use more - after all, it's only a matter of time until his fingers just fly right off his hands mid-solo.

unperson, Friday, 23 March 2007 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

xpost well that's always been Mark E Smith's perspective!

Mark G, Friday, 23 March 2007 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

Hey, Orthrelm gets a shout out on the Marnie Stern record!

Which is decent, I just assumed he was someone famous working in an area I wasn't in touch with (like metal, or some other heavy rock/noise jam dudes).

fandango, Friday, 23 March 2007 17:33 (eighteen years ago)

FWIW, "veneration" is typically accorded only to very old,or dead people. Therefore, respected elders are "venerable". We don't venerate youth, because youth hasn't demonstrated its value yet. Youth is all potential.

That's reference to a celebrated ILM thread, isn't it?

These Robust Cookies, Saturday, 24 March 2007 06:21 (eighteen years ago)

Lets put it this way.

My sister has spent nearly 9 years training to be a classical violinist. She is 14.

Since the age of 6 when she picked up her first violin to now she has spent years of just practice. Not to mention playing with several orchestras.

I think she has more talent, discipline, and most likely is a better musician then 95% of all the other musicians out there.

Eventually she will be a chamber orchestra violionist.

Do you have any idea what those people make? Its not exactly a lot.

Most a trained classical artist makes is from giving lessons.

Classical cds dont sell near enought and not everyone can be Joanna Newsom or Shara Warden......

generally its pretty fucked.

wesley useche, Saturday, 24 March 2007 07:27 (eighteen years ago)

There are several 17 year olds on American Idol. Young artists are rocking the stratosphere.

holy shit @ keren ann pic hi dere ex girlfriend

and what, Saturday, 24 March 2007 08:35 (eighteen years ago)

Well, if they do like Norah Jones and Katie Melua and aim for older audiences, it is no problem. But younger audiences don't appreciate musical talent these days.

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 24 March 2007 10:02 (eighteen years ago)

i hate to say this, but I read alot on the net and many people who are 14 to 25 years of age, think that there is nothing there in the music industry. I read these messages on youtube. they listen to oldies or obscure music..

If all the people you are talking about were the best of the best and the highest professional level, they would be mega famous....and raking in millions for every album and world touring.....

their careers would last forever....

it is obvious that clear channed is selling their record companies....

the people here are bogus and liars.

they have no money. SF weekly is going to have to be bought out, since clear channel has no money..

YOu people are not reading ...or you are in la la land..

Norah's and Katie's career are no more..they are not going anywhere....

None of the people you mention above are going anywhere....

Johanna Newsom will never be a big selling star.....

there are NO world tours, no big selling acts....

YOu know why?

They can't sing, can't write and can't play......

The record industry is NO more....

There is nothing left.....and most intelligent people know this.

YOu people must not be intelligent.

If they signed the very best the world has to offer, there would be extensive world touring year after year....selling one billion copies of albums....

big huge concerts...and a long lasting career.......

Norah and whoever doesn't sell to older audiences either...she is SNorah Jones and she doesn't selll, cause she has very little talent.

Same for all the men.....

none of them sell.....

You are crazy people here, who work for the dying music industry....

you are so stupid and talk like idiots...

marissa, Saturday, 24 March 2007 13:15 (eighteen years ago)

none of the people you are talking about above can sing write or play...

the music industry is broke...Clear Channel is selling their radio stations....

Most older people I know, don't like Norah Jones..and she is SNORAH jones...extremely bland...boring and not very talented....

Most younger people are not interested in untalented people like Johanna Newsom and people are mocking her all over the net....she sucks so badly...
she is far from popular or successful...

The music industry IS NO MORE>>>>>>>>>

because they are INCOMPETENT>>and don't know a good song or a good voice if it struck them in the face.....

YOunger people are mostly into oldies or obscure music...

FACT; Yo Yo Ma is a great technician....not a composer..
he is the not the best of the best...
the best ...would would be a composer who is a virtuoso...people who know nothing about music , would think that yo yo ma is the best of the best...he is not...

They are not signing the best and not promoting the finest to the masses.

They know nothing about music....

That is why they can not face reality....

Many people feel there is nothing there in the music industry...I mean on other boards etc .......
THEY CAN'T SING, WRITE OR PLAY.

I'm sorry, but it's silly to say, "I don't like banjos." Banjos probably came over to the United States from Africa. Have you never heard an Asian banjo such as the shamisen?

In any case, an instrument exists for people to do things with it.
