Mind is blown.

The single is set for release in June, album in August.

Fascinating. I remember there was somebody mumbling on a thread a year back or so about Vince Clarke rejoining Depeche fully, which was a ridiculous idea. This is something else! (No matter what else it looks like them collectively going "HAHA MARTIN WE DON'T ALWAYS NEED YOU.")

Ned Raggett, Friday, 23 March 2007 23:54 (eighteen years ago)

Hahah, and I love how EVERY conversation with them these days always has the sense of them having plotted everything out well in advance to be sure, thus:

QUESTION:
Are you comfortable being all four in the same room after so many years of insulated work and tensive relationships?

(all together)

Alan Wilder:
Well… Now it’s ok, but for the first time that was a bit weird.

David Gahan:
I feel fine… What d’you expect from us here? Start fighting or what? We’re kinda not about that, we’ve grown old I guess.

Vince Clark:
Eh, it's not bad, nice food, good drinks, there's everything to feel comfortable.

Andrew Fletcher:
I thing I apologized so now I’m quite relaxing about things.

(laughter)

Daniel Miller:
They are now, Dan, cause we’ve all passed a tough negotiating period and now done on that.

Translation: oh, the lawyers that were involved.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 23 March 2007 23:56 (eighteen years ago)

my heart says "woo".

my head says "this will be shit".

grimly fiendish, Friday, 23 March 2007 23:57 (eighteen years ago)

I do also see that there's all this talk about 'supporting Martin while he's busy with the personal stuff' -- on the one hand that's fair, sounds like the divorce has really left him exhausted and out of it, plus the tour. On the other hand, still.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 23 March 2007 23:59 (eighteen years ago)

Hahah, I love this credit near the bottom of that page:

Artwork: Martin Atkins
Booklet photography: Anton Corbijn

IE: "Okay, we're going to do a coin toss to see who gets the front cover, Erasure's cover guy or Depeche's..."

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 24 March 2007 00:02 (eighteen years ago)

Actually the other thing is that Andy Bell isn't mentioned once in that interview! Talk about the odd man out!

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 24 March 2007 00:05 (eighteen years ago)

Kerri Chandler? François K! Sweet.

blunt, Saturday, 24 March 2007 00:07 (eighteen years ago)

stupid question time.
is the project called 'Plug-In' then.
if so, then why is it still being branded as DM as per the cover art ?
or is it actually a shuffled up DM making an album without Martin, and the album title is Plug-In ?

mark e, Saturday, 24 March 2007 00:07 (eighteen years ago)

As I just said elsewhere, "not Depeche Mode, but an incredible simulation."

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 24 March 2007 00:08 (eighteen years ago)

The album is called Line, if I gather correctly from that interview. V. confusing!

Curt1s Stephens, Saturday, 24 March 2007 00:09 (eighteen years ago)

i just think if i 'Plug In' is the album title then call it that, and stop with all this 'project' nonsense !

(i hate albums being referred to as projects)

mark e, Saturday, 24 March 2007 00:10 (eighteen years ago)

Kerri Chandler?

Nope, Knox.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 24 March 2007 00:11 (eighteen years ago)

this really cant be bad

Fetchboy, Saturday, 24 March 2007 05:56 (eighteen years ago)

Interesting. Btw. this particular lineup - with Alan rather than Martin - has never been together before.

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 24 March 2007 10:05 (eighteen years ago)

5. Mixed Up - Music / Lyrics A. Fletcher

looking forward to this one especially!!!!!

Curt1s Stephens, Sunday, 25 March 2007 04:09 (eighteen years ago)

[i]5. Mixed Up - Music / Lyrics A. Fletcher/[i]

one-note bassline begins ...

"oh my little darling
i see your tax return
for the year oh-five to oh-six
is not fully compliant with the standards laid down by her majesty's inspectorate of taxes
you're a mixed-up girl
and you stand to be fined several hundred pounds
in a mixed-up world
but, really, these rules exist for a reason and i would encourage you to visit your local tax office as soon as possible to rectify this
baby"

grimly fiendish, Sunday, 25 March 2007 12:25 (eighteen years ago)

ahem, mistyped tag. you get the idea.

grimly fiendish, Sunday, 25 March 2007 12:26 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe this will lead to DM re-recording parts of their backcatalogue with Vince Clarke ... just imagine, it would be like the synth-pop version of those Weird Al polka medleys.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Sunday, 25 March 2007 12:47 (eighteen years ago)

whew good thing Fletch is on board eh

m coleman, Sunday, 25 March 2007 13:02 (eighteen years ago)

AF: ... All of the guys have already got songs of the various level of readiness… and you know… the new project is not fully an album; it’s mostly compilation of the songs made in different periods with some common line lying beneath of each one. So we just split work in few … let’s call them ‘shifts’… or stages fitting the needs and plans of each and every member and having it done quite quickly. I think we’ll need a few weeks of mixing it properly to create an overall mood of the record...

In other words, it will be like Fragile except without "Roundabout," "South Side of the Sky," or "Heart of the Sunrise."

mitya, Sunday, 25 March 2007 15:32 (eighteen years ago)

Well, precious and fragile things need special handling.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 25 March 2007 15:38 (eighteen years ago)

YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST: FLETCH WILL HAVE THE BEST SONG ON THIS ALBUM

Curt1s Stephens, Monday, 26 March 2007 15:25 (eighteen years ago)

Woah. I am incredibly excited about this. Hope it doesn't disappoint!

ENBB, Monday, 26 March 2007 15:59 (eighteen years ago)

Deprasure Yazemblymodeoo

Mark G, Monday, 26 March 2007 16:02 (eighteen years ago)

Agh, that cover! It looks like the bastard son of Agaetis Byrjun and any dime-a-dozen Windham Hill album...

Telephone thing, Monday, 26 March 2007 16:23 (eighteen years ago)

I hope its real....but sounds like one of the band's famous "April Fools" announcements. Guess we'll know in a week.

Debby, Monday, 26 March 2007 20:46 (eighteen years ago)

That would be Deprasurecoil Yazemblymodeoo

Geir Hongro, Monday, 26 March 2007 21:48 (eighteen years ago)

So I had mentioned this to my friend Ben the other day and he said, "Sounds like an April Fool's joke." And you know, he was right...

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 31 March 2007 17:05 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...
oh, fuck.

Curt1s Stephens, Monday, 7 May 2007 20:47 (eighteen years ago)

I really wanted to hear Fletch's composition.

Curt1s Stephens, Monday, 7 May 2007 20:48 (eighteen years ago)

WHY YOU BRAEK HEART ALL TIME???!!
i was looking forward to this so much!@!
i told everyone i know about it.
this is the shittiest practical joke ever. it'd be one thing if the band was behind it, but it was just a bunch of asshole fans.

Fetchboy, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 00:35 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, seriously :(

Curt1s Stephens, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 00:38 (eighteen years ago)

Holy shit the dude that wrote that dmreunion website sounds like one creepy-ass obsessive fucking freakoid.

Trayce, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 00:48 (eighteen years ago)

I have to give it GZ, he got everyone good with this one.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 00:58 (eighteen years ago)
