it's a tribute to syd barrett. it consists of 14 new tracks with lyrics, er, "adapted from" poetry by, among others, emerson, blake and shelley. it's out on april 2 (in the UK, at least).

and you know what?

it is truly bloody wonderful.

i probably wouldn't have listened to it if the arts editor hadn't said: "hey, you like synthesisers" and thrown it at my head. i'm just writing my review now: as i've said, the end result sounds like an eighties road movie soundtracked by early talk talk, mark knopfler and mike scott. which i very much doubt is what TD were aiming for, but hey: result!

what a pleasant surprise for a saturday afternoon.
