The new El-P album thread: Why is that song called Tasmanian Pain Coaster?

I like this album a lot. Save for the rhyming of "dealy deal" with "really real" in Tasmanian Pain Coaster.

Also, El-P looks like Steve the Pirate from Dodgeball

I am addicted to the drums on "Up All Night."

The "guests" on this album scare the beejesus out of me, but everyone sez that you can't even tell they are there which makes me wonder what was the point of having them as guests.

Also yeah some of the worst track titles don't help either.

I think it's good that the dubious guests are in the background. First, because they are indeeeed dubious. Second, because I could hardly see El-P busting out some hooky, shitty, Kanye Westy type chorus or summat.

Yeah its a really good record. The League of Extraordinary Nobodies is tight. I think that there is a lot of homage to pre-golden age rap on the album; the bells in EMG remind me of the Sugarhill and the snare in some of the tunes is totally like something out of early Run-DMC or BDP.

I love this album. The weird thing with El is that it seems like people on the left coast seem to find him way more impenetrable for some reason, and this album won't help that! It's so dense, so meticulously crafted - a fucking masterpiece.

I just heard snippets of the album on the itunes store and it seems as good as FD if not better.

You can definitely hear Trent Reznor's voice and influence on 'Flyentology'. Sounds more like NIN featuring El-P than the other way around. Probably the worst song on the album too, tho I like both artists.

I'm coming 'round to thinking this is a masterpiece - definitely a notch ahead of Fantastic Damage....he took his time with this one - every track is carefully layered - and the density leads to a more emotional response than FD (which was more brutal/harsh).....flyentology and the breakup song are the weak spots, but everything else is damn near flawless - I like the way the guests are used as samples/semi-hidden because it allows the album to escape that guest-trap/that orgy of egos - as deadbears mentioned, the reason flyentology doesn't work is because it sounds to NINish...the contrast of this is his beautiful layering of chan marshall's voice at the end of the final track

I like it a lot, too, but I really think the "I Found Love on a Prison Ship" song is pretty weak, although it's a good conceit.

it's very good, but I'm not sure yet whether I like it better than Fantastic Damage -- I kinda liked the sloppy, scattershot approach. this one seems a bit too focused on the political/social commentary angle; there's nothing like "Lazerface's Warning" (weird) or "T.O.J." (beautiful) or "Dr. Hellno" (hilarious).
