Mid 90s guitar song - Golden Brown for the 90s??

In the mid 90s (possibly around the 1995-97 area) there was a big hit on British radio which was a twangy guitar riff played over and over. It still sometimes crops up on adverts/promos and completely drives me crazy.

It was like a 90s version of The Stranglers "Golden Brown" (not a remake, just very similar style), also incorporating elements similar to that jazz song "Take 5". The (male) lyrics were really haunting and I don't think there was a chorus as such. I think I remember lyrics such as "Make it last fore-ever" and "And I danced with a girl called desire...." but no search of those lyrics brings up a result.

I was at a party where it was on the same CD as the Boo Radleys "Wake Up" and Blur's "Beetlebum" so I'd say the band are similar to those two.

Thanks!!

I think he's right!

You quiver like a candle on fire
Im putting you out
Maybe tonight we could be the shout
But i;m fascinated by your style
Your beuaty will last for a while

Youre feeling instead of being
The more that I live on the inside
Theres nothing to give
Im infatuated by your moves
Ive got to search hard for your clues

I want to repair your desire
And call it a gift
That I stole from just wanting to live
Now I see the vision thru your eyes
Your innocence no longer fuels surprise

Trying to outrun your fear
Running to lose
Heart on your sleeve and your sole in your shoes
Take a left,
A sharp left
And another left, meet me on the corner
And well start, again

Yes, lyrics so haunting that no-one can remember them. Spooky!

Yeah, that's it! God knows how you worked it out from my description! Thanks....

I just remembered that they used to use it as the "background music" on the Sky Digital Menu when I first got it, which would have been early 1999 so it is definitely the one. No wonder I never got round to actually watching any TV.....

Henceforth this song shall be known as 'the music from the Sky Digital Menu'. Sort of like a 90s counterpart to 'the music from the Take Hart Gallery'.

I remember when "Cavatina" was used as music for the Vision On gallery pre-Deer Hunter.

I think it was the Cleo Laine Vocal version that put paid to that, I reckons.

Featuring sensitive flute accompaniment by Comstock Carabinieri favourite James Galway.

one year passes...

Don't dis the Sky Digital Musak, that was better than John Peel in the late 90s indie world. Badly Drawn Boy had their debut on there. "Walking on the Sun" was also played.

Sadly they resort to crappy non vocal acid-jazz these days.
