I'm in You

No, not literally, of course. I'm talking about Peter Frampton's power-ballad. The lyrics are total crap, of course, though pretty unintentionally funny. The MUSIC, though...I've always thought it's actually pretty beautiful. Particularly, I think the piano makes the song...it would definitely suffer without it.

Anyone else out there like this song?

I haven't heard it, but I've seen the glorious album cover in many a dollar bin. Sitting there so smug and self-satisfied on that couch, arm casually draped over the back, with the message in a plain, unassuming font right above it: "I'm In You." And you know, in a way, he really is.

Frank Zappa's "I Have Been In You" is a much better song than this.

No time to wash your smelly hand
Roll on over, I'm going in you again...

I remember this song - I like the way it just sort of stumbles from one bit to the next, no clear-cut parts in the song, just a rambling, off-the-cuff mess with a big production to hide it. I know this was his career-killer but I'd sooner hear this than "Baby I Love Your Way" yet again.

Arguments about who's better, Peter Frampton or Frank Zappa. I think I'm in hell.

I think the flow of the sections is actually pretty good. There's the link between the vocal pattern of the verse and the chorus (short- short-LONG/pause, pause/short-short-LONG/pause, pause/short-short- LONG...), but the chords of the verse build up a sort of hazy tension that is released in the chorus' chords (which still are moody, but overall brighter). Also, I think the big production fits very well indeed. Maybe if the song had had some better lyrics, it would have been really good...

If we're going to talk about Zappa songs, can't we talk about "Broken Hearts Are For Assholes" instead?

"I Have Been in You" = naked = dirty

"I'm in You" = nude = Art

Discuss. (Yes, the Three's Company reference is purposeful).
