Sick for the Gristle usually means great. I do want to hear this now.

StanM, Sunday, 1 April 2007 16:03 (eighteen years ago)

so how is this?

chaki, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 01:03 (eighteen years ago)

I think it's really fucking awesome. Great production. It's pretty much Throbbing Gristle in the 21st century.

Harpal, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 06:19 (eighteen years ago)

must resist urge to download

rio natsume, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 06:32 (eighteen years ago)

i'm especially liking Almost a Kiss and Vow of Silence

theoreo, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 13:05 (eighteen years ago)

damn! this is good!

chaki, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 00:02 (eighteen years ago)

one of the year's best, i think.

theoreo, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 04:21 (eighteen years ago)

mt. photoshop

am0n, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 04:33 (eighteen years ago)

it's Mt. Kailas, Tibet
GPO was there when he was forced into exile from England

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 16:46 (eighteen years ago)

holy shit I am stuck in Peru and there is a new TG! I guess I´ll hear it in July.

sleeve, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

this is so good. i have to admit i'm a little surprised.

strongohulkington, Friday, 6 April 2007 17:28 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, I expected something good, but this is great. easily the most accessible thing they've done, but not dumbed-down in any way. GPO's vocals sound good as ever, and the production is stellar.

Cameron Octigan, Saturday, 7 April 2007 16:39 (eighteen years ago)

this is their best album.

circa1916, Saturday, 7 April 2007 19:01 (eighteen years ago)

i don't know if it's their best but it is certainly stellar. roll on the turbine hall!

stirmonster, Saturday, 7 April 2007 19:25 (eighteen years ago)

yep can't wait for the turbine hall show. did anyone get tickets for the recording sessions at the ica?

rio natsume, Saturday, 7 April 2007 19:35 (eighteen years ago)

does no-one else find this a little disappointing compared to tgnow? it's great, but definitely inferior to that, i think.

toby, Saturday, 7 April 2007 20:33 (eighteen years ago)

perhaps an overstatement, but i'm loving the hell out of this. it's remarkably listenable but no less potent. cameron OTM.

circa1916, Saturday, 7 April 2007 21:42 (eighteen years ago)

doesn't it sound like Coil? it does

rizzx, Sunday, 8 April 2007 00:12 (eighteen years ago)

I'm almost always disappointed when classic groups reunite, but this is very, very good. I'm definitely adding it to the must buy list.

leavethecapital, Sunday, 8 April 2007 14:51 (eighteen years ago)

We've got a copy of the regular edition sitting there in the store... it's been beckoning me... begging me to buy it.

But I ordered the special edition! So I'm waiting for that to show up instead. Based on all the reviews and reaction I've read, I'm really excited to hear this. The special edition can't show up fast enough :(

novaheat, Sunday, 8 April 2007 19:55 (eighteen years ago)

what is the difference between editions?

I must say, this band was near the top of my "never thought they´d ever get back together" list. this is very exciting, my friend in the states also tells me that it sounds like Coil which can only be a good thing.

sleeve, Sunday, 8 April 2007 21:11 (eighteen years ago)

I'm loving this too. It's definitely a TG record with a warmer sound (or about as warm as TG can sound). It sure beats the hell out of The Weirdness as far as reunions go.

Jeff K, Monday, 9 April 2007 00:21 (eighteen years ago)

I'm really intrigued by all this -- perhaps I'll look to snag it this weekend.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 9 April 2007 00:41 (eighteen years ago)

this is probably my album of the year, so far. it's that good.

Harpal, Monday, 9 April 2007 07:14 (eighteen years ago)

it does sound like coil. that's not really a bad thing since we'll never have another coil album. (in fact, it sounds very much like a step on from where i wanted coil to go post-musick to play in the dark.)

strongohulkington, Monday, 9 April 2007 13:17 (eighteen years ago)

What sort of things is Genesis doing vocally? How to answer that? Maybe you could compare to other recordings. Is he doing that hissy dramatic spoken word thing? Screaming? Trying to sing?

Rockist Scientist, Monday, 9 April 2007 13:21 (eighteen years ago)

'hissy dramatic spoken word thing', ha! ha! Yeah, he does that on a couple of songs and he also makes an attempt or two to "sing" but there's no screaming.

If you liked TG before and know what you're in for, no one should be disappointed with this album.

Jeff K, Monday, 9 April 2007 14:53 (eighteen years ago)

A reunion album that's actually good - there's a novelty! I hope it doesn't sound too much like Coil...

Tom D., Monday, 9 April 2007 14:54 (eighteen years ago)

If you liked TG before

Let's just say GPO's vocalizations have become more of a stumbling block for me over the years. But I'm impressed with the enthusiasm for this release, and there are big chunks of TG's sound that I still like.

Rockist Scientist, Monday, 9 April 2007 14:58 (eighteen years ago)

I think it sounds more like Throbbing Gristle than Coil but I can see some similarities.

Jeff K, Monday, 9 April 2007 15:01 (eighteen years ago)

there are a few Gen songs on this that remind me why I don't like the last 15 years of PTV records (not to be harsh) but there are moments on this where he's never sounded better, he just sounds insane. it's a good record.

the 2004 Astoria gig... I went in just happy to be there, and lowered expectations. but they blew me away, and it was largely because of Gen's vocals. there's a DVD of that show coming out in a few months.

the TGNOW ep was pretty good for a recording of one of their first rehearsal / jams, but this new thing is an album

Milton Parker, Monday, 9 April 2007 18:12 (eighteen years ago)

what is the difference between editions?

The special edition comes with one of four "totemic gifts" made of copper, bone, wood, or rubber.

Typical Peter Christopherson "music-as-fetish-object" marketing... but then, I'm a sucker for that kind of thing. I assume the packaging will be a bit different than just a regular jewel case, too.

The reviews are sounding so good that I'm almost tempted to just go buy the regular edition to tide me over until the special edition arrives... if it does at all :(

novaheat, Monday, 9 April 2007 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

anyone still digging this? i'm listening again now in preperation for sunday. i love it. there is so much low end on this record, it is probably the most well produced record i've heard all year. man this weekend is gonna be crazy - blurt on friday, villalobos & alex under on saturday, then tg & carl craig on sunday!

creme1, Monday, 21 May 2007 10:52 (eighteen years ago)

isn't tg on saturday?????

i saw blurt a few weeks ago. so so so good!

stirmonster, Monday, 21 May 2007 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

I still need to get this damn thing. Maybe this Friday.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 21 May 2007 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

saw the first of the two TG shows in Vienna a couple of weeks back....
insanely loud - the heaviest bass i've ever heard at a live show

a good mix of old and new stuff - including a version of 'hot on the heels of love'..

Jack Battery-Pack, Monday, 21 May 2007 17:38 (eighteen years ago)

new album is also much better than expected

still getting into the new Christopherson solo 'Threshold Houseboys Choir' - pretty good, but still miss Balance's vocals....

Jack Battery-Pack, Monday, 21 May 2007 17:40 (eighteen years ago)

one year passes...

All of TG on WFMU this evening. See http://freeform.wfmu.org/
