Would you accuse me of shameless showing-off if I posted my record colletion here?

anyway...I just completed a list of all the albums in my possession (actually there are 100-150 of them that I didn't include because I scarcely listen to them nowadays)... here it is:

http://piggypoke.blogspot.com/

I don't have a website so I recycled an old never-used-before weblog in order to publish my list online

Comments?

Please post similar lists so that I can learn what to buy next...

oh, it doesn't include the latest arrivals: suicide's first album, the Tom Cora tribute thing on Tzadik and the Liliput/Kleenex best of... :-)

Simone, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the apples in stereo are moving to kentucky because they are huge 'cats fans.

keith, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why is it that you only have 1-4 albums of a specific band/ person? Maybe It's just my weird ways, but I like getting most to all of a band/person's albums. (e.g. David Bowie; I have like 30)

A Nairn, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Send me your copy of Tender Pervert and I'll forgive you this indulgence.

Sean Carruthers, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

electric sound of jim, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hi simone

your list is very ineresting! If I was at a your party and was looking through yr collection, I'd probably want to be yr friend. It is interesting as A Nairn points out that there is often only one album by an artist, which then makes it noteworthy which album it turns out to be. I'd say overall it is a recent album, although there are exceptions (transient random... comes to mind) I would guess that you are fairly young?? I don't mean this to sound bad at all: looks like youve got yourself 'the essential indie starter kit' and I say that because of the quality of having one or two albums by so many different mainstays of "hip" music. Actually another reason I'd say youre young is because of things like Led Zep and Hendrix greatest hits albums. Also the Non-indie stuff tends towards "THE BIGGIES" ie whitealbumrevolverabbeyroad, pet sounds, lamb lies down..., in the court of... etc. Fleshed out w/ respectable showing of well known Jazz masters. I would peg you as an avid reader of the music press.

Anyways, thanks for sharing your list. It was fun to look at!

Ron, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

wow electricsound, yr list would require some serious study...I am not currently up to task, nice looking site. Interesting to note apparently v. high proportion of 7" vinyl!!

Ron, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oh yeah, simone i was going to say most interesting single album choice = pornography (?!?!)

Ron, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Indeed, I have a long standing affair with the vinyl 45. I just can't resist 'em

electric sound of jim, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Needs more Cocteau Twins.

And the Funkstorung? LOL! Cut to the originals, Simone, and check out Autechre. Appetite For Disctruction's angular beats come from Tri Repetae, though the latter is cleanersounding.

More Mogwai.

More Sleater-Kinney.

Having any Cocteau, Mogwai or SK is aces in my book, though.

Lee, Sunday, 14 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

in response to A Nairn: I just want my collection to be a bit more varied... There are obviously several artists whose entire catalogue I wouldn't mind owning but whenever I set myself to buy more... say Nick Cave, soomething else (usually a new release) catches my eye. It happens all the time...

Ron: there is a good deal of truth in what you say: right at the outset I WAS probably trying to build the perfect indie starter kit and my mainstream picks do tend towards the "biggies" but I think that phase is long gone... Just look at my latest purchases:-)

Oh, I'm 21 which qualifies me as young I guess. And I'm not english which probably explains my relative clumsiness with the language eh eh

Lee: you'd be absolutely right were it not for the fact that I don't like electronic music, I bought the Funkstörung album by mistake (a reviewer said that they were touring with Einstürzende Neubauten... hence my interest towards them). I know Autechre but honestly... it's not my cup of blood. I love Sleater-kinney and I'm eagerly waiting for their new album! BTW, isn't itscheduled for release later this year?

Simone, Sunday, 14 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Black Crowes and Circulatory System = good choices! You need more Kraftwek.

jel --, Sunday, 14 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Jim has Rein Sanction! I never ever found a Rein Sanction album anywhere!

jel --, Sunday, 14 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

funkstorung are so fucking much better than autechre!!

ethan, Sunday, 14 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Strange how Momus caught your eye, generally what strikes my friends is the bunch of italian lounge-esque soundtracks. Actually I don't think I've listed all of them

Simone, Sunday, 14 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

kewl... but more david bowie! more stereolab!

geeta, Sunday, 14 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

actually, forget the stereolab. just get more david bowie!

geeta, Sunday, 14 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

One of these days I'm gonna catalogue all my tapes and CD's. Or maybe just take one letter, W - Winger, Warrant...

jel --, Sunday, 14 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw the Rein Sanction album on sale when I was in Perth earlier this year.. I did consider buying it..

electric sound of jim, Sunday, 14 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you need more arto lindsay, sonic youth and uh... FLIPPER. you also need some rocket of the thombs and fleetwood mac. i am NEVER gonna put my records in a database. i prefer not confronting myself with my huge collection. heh

nathalie, Sunday, 14 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm tempted to put together such a list and post it, but I sometimes am frustrated by the extent to which what I own does not represent what I like. For instance, I have about eight CDs by the Egyptian singer Warda, which I vitually never listen to. Even when I liked Warda a lot, all of my favorite recordings were on the $3.00 cassettes I bought at an Arabic grocery rather than the $20.00+ imports I bought at Tower.

DeRayMi, Sunday, 14 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

btw simone, i hope your self-deprecating about your english didn't come from anything i said, your english is excellent

Ron, Sunday, 14 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

don't worry Ron, my self-deprecating has nothing to do with your kind answer :-) I merely have a tendency to worry about what english- speaking people think of my grasp of the language...

Simone, Sunday, 14 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Momus caught my eye because I am trying and failing to get a copy of that album into my collection. That's all. =)

Mark, Sunday, 14 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Funkstoring vs Autechre - Well, I always felt that Funkstoring were in competition with them and inspite of their innovations (vocalists, Wu-Tang remixes) they always came off as Autechre-lite. Just how obviously they were rippin AE's style (Appetite for Destruction onwards) became the reason why AE stopped working with them on Skam's MASK 100-500 series.

nick.K, Monday, 15 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think you need any (more) advice from ILM, Simone. You're doing fine on your own as far as I can see. (But get some Kate Bush records)

Jeff W, Monday, 15 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bloody hell though, Hounds of Love is hard going once you get past, well, Hounds of Love - ITS IN THE TREES! ITS COMING!!!!!

Sean Carruthers, Monday, 15 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)
