Song ID needed - "my best friend's mother"?

Now here's a curveball of a query.

Heard on the bus in Rotherhithe on the Tuesday before last, sundry mp3 mobiles all blasting out an R&B song to which the kids holding the mobiles were singing along in a not quite amelodic fashion.

Nevertheless it was quite a good song - however, all we could glean in terms of identifying it were snatches of lyrics (chorus?) which mentioned "my best friend's mother" and also included the refrain "I'm sorry."

Google isn't any help in this respect, but it is contemporary R&B pop with a female lead vocal (or vocals). Can anyone hazard a guess as to the name and performer of this song? Sorry that the info is so scanty here but both Lena and myself would be extremely glad to know more about it. Thanks!

It's not Stacy's Mom or whatever that song was, is it?
