Has anyone seen a shop in the US that'll do mailorder that has this for less than $100?
― Telephone thing, Sunday, 17 June 2007 10:23 (eighteen years ago)
god. i'm gonna have to get this. but so ... many ... discs ...
― grimly fiendish, Sunday, 17 June 2007 11:28 (eighteen years ago)
I'm really tempted by this, too, but I've got most of the Depeche Mode, Frank Tovey, Birthday Party and the two Normal tracks, do I still need it when Yazoo isn't really my cup of tea anymore?
As for the best deal, Action Records seems to have a good price for us Yanks, dunno how much the shipping will be.

Check out Mute Online shop, you can get signed copies for no extra cost.

UK ilx0rs may be interested to know itunes UK are selling the whole box set (10 discs, 130 songs, etc) digitally for 7.99 pounds.

i shouldn't tell mrs fiendish about that. she bought me the box for my birthday :/
(although, having just looked on iTunes, i cannae find it. so hey.)
ANYWAY. my god, this thing FUCKING RULES. i went through a brief early-mute phase back in the very early 1990s, when i was 16, but it was pretty much limited to DM and yazoo. i wouldn't have known to make of non and so on back then ... hell, even fad gadget was too weird and freaky for me.
but now this all makes such perfect sense ... the whole of the 1982 disc in particular is incredible. and that early fad gadget stuff is absolutely fucking mindblowing: "fireside favourite" is jaw-dropping. i have a copy of his first album on tape somewhere, unlistened-to in 15 years. i am a fucking knob.
anyway. i'm about halfway through the whole box at the moment, and in raptures. possibly grimly album of the year, this.

I got this over a month ago...and I still haven't made it past the first CD.
I must get back to listening to it - but it's quite heavy going to digest it.

you think? i'm finding it surprisingly easy -- i've listened to nothing else since sunday afternoon. no, really.
i'm fully aware i might at some point start choking on all the wires, but for now: naah. keep bringing it on.

I think listening to most of my music on pc via itunes has had a detrimental effect on my attention span.
I very rarely make it through a complete album these days. no, really

This was probably obvious for any one who owned U.S. copies of Mute albums (which would have Sire's logo somewhere) but Mute Records posted this quote from Daniel Miller in remembrance of Seymour Stein:
He was a huge supporter of Mute and our artists in America. He released my first single, Depeche Mode, Erasure, and Fad Gadget and was always a great mouthpiece for British music when nobody else in America was interested. I will miss him greatly. Thank you, Seymour, for everything you did for us, for me and for music in general.
I'm pretty green about the music business, but I imagine a good U.S. distributor for a U.K. indie is pretty much a godsend, one that can really make the difference between feast or famine?
