OMG Dr Bombay made another record.

Anyway I like plenty of this stuff but a little of it goes a long way I find. I had no idea it was such a coherent genre! Mitch how do you think it fits with a) more straightforward "kids music" like The Wiggles? b) other 90s Eurodance aimed at the teen/casual clubber market (Dr Alban, Eiffel 65, TwentyFourSeven etc.)

Oh I've just noticed you spamming us with another topic :( Don't do that pls, it will not help the cause of bubblegum dance I fear.

Bubblegum dance was slightly more tolerable than the Eurodance of the earlier 90s. At least Bubblegum dance tended to have proper songs with verse and chorus, rather than a rapper in the verse and then some second rate Aretha Franklin/Martha Wash/Loletta Holloway copycat singing in the choruse while the video uses some bimbo model to mime instead.

Btw, why are you posting a thread about 9 year-old girls (at least their fans were 9 year-old girls at the time)

Aqua were terrific! They totally knew what they were doing. 'My Oh My' is a masterpiece.

does anyone remember the song "coco jamba" by mr. president? does that count as bubblegum dance? i remember that from high school.

Emily Bjurnhjam, Saturday, 14 April 2007 00:43 (nineteen years ago)

It's "Coco Jamboo" and sure it counts as bubblegum dance. For something less bubblegummy by them but still great: "Up 'n' Away."

And Aqua's "Cartoon Heroes" is one of the ten greatest singles of this decade.
