Has ILM not yet talked about Vh1's "Man Band"?

I already forget when exactly the whole sandbox thing started and when it ended so forgive me if this has already been noted, discussed, etc. Today, when someone mentioned LFO's "Summertime Girls," that caused me to Wiki the band and dig around a bit. Upon further investigation I found out that LFO's brilliant lyricist, Rich Cronin, would be in this little gem of a future project...

:Man Band (also known as Totally Boyband and Band of Men) is an American reality television series due to air on VH1 in mid2007.

The show is based on a format produced by MTV UK, in which a boyband is formed consisting of members previously part of successful pop acts from the past. The show follows the production, recording, performance and behind-the-scenes action involved in the run-up to the launch of their first debut single as a new group.

The so-far anonymous band consists of 4 members: The band's name is Sureshot.

* Bryan Abrams (Color Me Badd)
* Rich Cronin (LFO)
* Chris Kirkpatrick (*NSYNC)
* Jeff Timmons (98 Degrees)

The band will live together as they collectively write and produce songs with the help of professionals from the music industry, multi-Grammy winner and nominee, music producer Bryan Michael Cox and music manager Katie McNeil as cameras follow their every move.

Is it too early for late 90s boy band nostalgia and irony? I guess it's never too early for some people, but as long as they get Cronin to write more rap lyrics like "My mind takes me back there oh so quick/Let you off the hook like my man Mr. Limpet" and "When you take a sip you buzz like a hornet/Billy Shakespeare wrote a bunch of sonnets," I may tune in yet.

I want to complain about someone mentioned in this thread, but that wouldn't be very professional.

The first band from this show, Upper Street, had a track on the recent Ultimate Boy Bands comp, and it was actually amazing. Would have been a big hit if it had been released in 1999 or so.

Here's a link.

I know that actually obtaining chart success is really secondary to getting ratings, but if the first group failed in the UK I cannot imagine this band doing anything in the US.

Never underestimate the power of "ironically" liking something! That being said, yeah, it's still a wee bit too early to be riding the boy band nostalgia cash cow.

Ned knows a Don Knotts hater (and by proxy a hater of America) when he sees one.

is it really too early? I was at a club/bar last year and there was an office party held there at the same time, guys and girls in their mid-20s. Their DJ played a whole bunch of late 90s, early 00s boyband/Britney/Spice girlpop and it actually sounded pretty fantastic. It's funny, back when it was popular, you would never hear those big boyband songs, like "Larger than Life" played in clubs. But now, people seemed to enjoy it (at least, ironically) and of course, every person there knew the words to everything.
