One Hot Minute

Just picked it up the other day, after losing it several years ago. And it hits me; why is this album so loathed (in the media)? Granted it's no BSSM, but surely it beats the last two studio albums by a long shot. Some great tracks on here - Coffee Shop, Aeroplane, Walkabout, Shallow Be Thy Game

It's their only good album.

there really are too many plodding, unmemorable tracks on the thing. shallow be thy game? i can't even remember how that goes, and i've got the record lying around here somewhere. 'coffee shop' is quite catchy and cool, and i'll even grant you 'aeroplane'. everything else annoys me or simply doesn't stand out.

better than the last three flat, uninspired outings though

Agreed that it's uneven, but I like more than half the tracks on it. The only one that really drags the album down is the closer Transcending. That's quite impressively bad.

Although it never saw much exposure, stuff like One Big Mob and Falling into Grace are solid sing-alongs, and keep that nice parodic punk/pop sound

My Friends is quite good, Pea is good filler, Tearjerker is a pretty strange ballad, Aeroplane is an anthem. I like it. It's a weird bit of music.

My favorite album of theirs basically for My Friends and Aeroplane.

I'm not even a big fan of the chilis fwiw. in fact i have actively despised them since i was about 10 and saw them on totp in about 1990. Aside from this album and maybe one or two off of BSSM and Californication they can go hang.

oh i like them fine. i dont feel the need to distance myself. i jammed to bloodsexmagicmilk.

After how if flopped following Blood Sugar, I thought a better title for it might be Hot One Minute. But those nutty Peppers proved me wrong.
