Lost Penguin: the Next Klaxons?

About time there was a thread on these guys, probably the most exciting band on the New Rave scene, if not London as a whole. They fuse danceable punky beats with intelligent lyrics, and they're all a bunch of hotties if I dare say. Just don't say the "Bis" word ;). Check out their myspace http://www.myspace.com/wheresmypenguin

Apart from the Klaxons, are there any other notable "new rave" bands? Or is it more of a fashion statement that maybe a few more obscure bands (like these, who i haven't heard yet) have co-opted?

the next grozart, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:43 (eighteen years ago)

Yep. Bolt Action 5, We Smoke Fags, Hadouken, Enter Shakiri, Sports Day Megaphone, the Cleft Palletes, turbowolf, the list goes on and on. There is even a New Rave record label in No Pain In Pop Records.

Ethan Gaymead, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:47 (eighteen years ago)

I understand they're all managed by Don't Quit Your Day Job Inc.

Hans Rott, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:09 (eighteen years ago)

You couldn't make it up.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:10 (eighteen years ago)

So what did you think of the band? I think they could really go far.

Ethan Gaymead, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

People are saying that the singer is going to be the new karen O.

Ethan Gaymead, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

they look like bonde do role.

CharlieNo4, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

pretzel walrus, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of despised love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
That undiscover'd country from whose bourne
No traveller returns, puzzles the will
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all;
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pith and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry,
And lose the name of action.--Soft you now!
The fair Ophelia! Nymph, in thy orisons
Be all my sins remember'd.

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:38 (eighteen years ago)

People are also making comparisons to Huggy Bear, I've only heard one or two Huggy Bear tracks so cannot make a fair assumption.

cutty, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:49 (eighteen years ago)

Do you want me to own you again mate?

Ethan Gaymead, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:49 (eighteen years ago)

Did you go to dictionary.com to work out how to spell "inexplicable"? You did didn't you.

Ethan Gaymead, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

Anyways, enough with the music haters. Any Klaxons fans on this borad?

Ethan Gaymead, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

ANY KLAXONS FANS ON THIS BORAD?

cutty, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

There's been steady money coming in on Marcello.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

Matt DC, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

Oooh, nice punt.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

I must assume that you are quite old Noodle Vague because A. You clearly do not have a clue about New Rave and B. You are spouting nonsensical nonsense on my thread. Have you taken your pills today? Grandad need go wees on armchair?

Ethan Gaymead, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

Just because you only know the Klaxons and think you're New Rave don't cry mate.

-- Ethan Gaymead, Friday, April 20, 2007 12:42 PM (11 minutes ago)

i thought this should probably be crossposted, since we have two concurrent threads running on a similar theme, and it's a valid point.

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:54 (eighteen years ago)

What are you betting on?? I made a New Rave poll you can vote on their. Check it out if you love music.

Ethan Gaymead, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:54 (eighteen years ago)

-10 fake troll points for not spelling it "nonsensicle". Must try harder.

Matt DC, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:54 (eighteen years ago)

There's been a bit of interest in Lex who's come in from 100s to 50-1.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

Go ahead, throw your money away!

Matt DC, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:56 (eighteen years ago)

"the most exciting band in london"

moonship journey to baja, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:56 (eighteen years ago)

Here is a good bet: What are the odds that Noodle Vague is sitting on a soaking wet armchair right now with his little grandad nob hanging out.

Ethan Gaymead, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:57 (eighteen years ago)

Any Lost Penguin fans on this thread? Apparantly Matt the bassist has got a Korg Electribe drum machine now so the beats are approximately 80-90% phatter.

Ethan Gaymead, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

haha

cutty, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

Do you have a graph to prove that?

Matt DC, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

dmr, Friday, 20 April 2007 17:00 (eighteen years ago)

There is a good remix of Lost Penguin in a favela booty beats stylee which is a new hip hop genre you probably haven't heard of yet.

Ethan Gaymead, Friday, 20 April 2007 17:06 (eighteen years ago)

Hans Rott, Friday, 20 April 2007 17:07 (eighteen years ago)

They play it in our social all the time. I'm off there for a couple of pints of mild now.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 20 April 2007 17:08 (eighteen years ago)

Cool. You should cheeck out the remix then it's pretty phat.

Ethan Gaymead, Friday, 20 April 2007 17:09 (eighteen years ago)

Lost Penguin is the umbrella by which Simon Stalenhag encompasses his music, art and writings. As well as being an actual persona that Simon has taken on. While Swedesplease is typically about just great Swedish music today's post encapsulates several mediums and Simon is rather adept them all
