May as well do this one, too. I'm only counting UK singles for the sake of simplicity.

In this case one might make a case that US singles such as "Yesterday", "All My Loving" and "Eight Days a Week" should have been included.

But, no too much of a problem, it's "Penny Lane"/"Strawberry Fields Forever" anyway :)

Where's the Jeff Lynne produced classic Free as a Bird?

Billy Dods, Friday, 20 April 2007 19:14 (eighteen years ago)

"Free As a Bird" and "Real Love" both lacking. As is also "Baby It's You". Not that anyone would have voted for them, but.... :)

Geir Hongro, Friday, 20 April 2007 19:16 (eighteen years ago)

"I Saw Her Standing There" wasn't on a UK single? In the US it paired with "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and I would choose that.

Dan Peterson, Friday, 20 April 2007 19:23 (eighteen years ago)

easily I Feel Fine/She's A Woman.

DavidM, Friday, 20 April 2007 19:51 (eighteen years ago)

Harder! It's between She Loves You, Help and Strawberry Fields, I reckon.

When was "Baby It's You" released as a single? Is that one of those Vee Jay discs or something?

darin, Friday, 20 April 2007 20:11 (eighteen years ago)

strawberry fields is my fave beatles track period, so...

Charlie Howard, Saturday, 21 April 2007 07:08 (eighteen years ago)

"Daytripper"/"We Can Work It Out" was they're best one/two punch ever, so that. Damn shame not being able to piok "Help" also, though.

JN$OT, Saturday, 21 April 2007 07:22 (eighteen years ago)

strawberry fields/penny lane

Tim Ellison, Saturday, 21 April 2007 07:24 (eighteen years ago)

"Baby It's You" was released as a single off the BBC Sessions album. Released about a year before "Anthology".

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 21 April 2007 23:13 (eighteen years ago)

It'd be fun to vote for worst too. "Help/I'm Down" is what I voted for

President Evil, Sunday, 22 April 2007 04:26 (eighteen years ago)

Went for Day Tripper/We Can Work It Out in the end, but Paperback Writer/Rain, Eleanor Rigby/Yellow Submarine, Strawberry Fields Forever/Penny Lane and Hello Goodbye/I Am the Walrus were running it close. Oh, and Help. Difficult, this one.

I Want To Hold Your Hand/This Boy is my choice

zeus, Sunday, 22 April 2007 08:43 (eighteen years ago)

"Yesterday" was belatedly released as a UK single in 1976 and reached number 8. And what about "Beatles Movie Medley" ? (number 10 in 1982). Anyway, I'm one of the few who voted for "The ballad of John and Yoko", much under-rated methinks, and a great B side to boot. The trouble with a lot of these is that I've just heard them too many times- "Hey Jude" is a great song, but I never need to hear it again particularly.

Fishman2, Sunday, 22 April 2007 09:20 (eighteen years ago)

"The Ballad Of John And Yoko" sounds like a John Lennon solo effort, which in effect it was too - in spite of Paul McCartney providing bass and backing vocals.

great thread

outdoor_miner, Friday, 27 April 2007 22:15 (eighteen years ago)

None for Hey Jude either.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Friday, 27 April 2007 22:16 (eighteen years ago)

Neither "From Me To You", my second favourite Beatles single.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 27 April 2007 22:18 (eighteen years ago)

well i missed this. the lack of love for please please me is saddening.
however i'd probably have gone for ticket to ride. i feel fine is great too.

Frogman Henry, Friday, 27 April 2007 23:00 (eighteen years ago)

seven months pass...

I'm gonna change my vote from Penny Lane to Help despite Strawberry Fields Forever being mixed in with Penny Lane making an ultimate Duo. But Help is just a damn good song. Maybe it's just louder and that's why I like it so much.

CaptainLorax, Friday, 14 December 2007 10:16 (eighteen years ago)

The fact that Help only got one vote has to because everyone went with Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane.
